Good point tiossy about being the 4th highest paid now, but not later. Just as i stated, in 2 years Berrians contract will look cheap compared to whats going on.

Do any of you guys listen to the Common Man on KFAN? Ever hear his spiel about "hope"? Funny, but true. Winter Park is selling hope once again! It was real funny when everyone was calling in and returning their "hope" at the end of Dec/early Jan.

I've got 5 guys right here who caught more balls than Berrian and they also played on terrible offenses. I don't think any of these guys is considered superior.

Shaun McDonald(79)

Roddy White(83)

Bobby Engram(94)

Jerricho Cotchery(82)

Derrick Mason(103)

I like Berrian in purple though. He's a "good" reciever.

The reason he got the stats he did was because they were always behind and had to pass a lot. He was consistently in the top 20 in passes thrown his way each week.

Lmitout, what is your alternative solution to signing Berrian knowing your O-line is not getting younger and you can't keep a really good defense together forever?? I'd also like to listen to what the common mans answer would be. I'm a viking fan, i know our hopes get dashed every year. At least i feel as if the organization is being proactive for once. And i truly believe Berrian has upside to be revealed yet. His impact will be more than just the numbers he puts up.

Don't get me wrong, I think Berrian is a great addition to the Vikes. It's no secret that they need something in the WR positions compared to what they've had. If you compare the acquisition to eBay, I think the Vikes did a "buy it now" and paid more than they should have and they got him for twice what the Bears were offering. In the end they got the guy they wanted so we'll just have to watch to see if it was worth the price paid. It's unfortunate they weren't as proactive last year where they could have picked up a free-agent QB the same way.

I see RB Michael Turner signed with the Falcons and TE Algae Crumpler signed a 2 yr deal with the Titans.

Ya, I listen to the common man and PA and Dubay show. So I know all the spiels they talk about! The common man has valid points but half the time he is talking out of his @ss. Maybe Winter park is selling hope, but isn't every other team in the NFL doing the same right now. Look at the Jets, Jags, 49ers, and Browns, whom are all making big splashes in free agency so far, how many of these teams will actually do good or better than last year? Maybe they will crash and burn this coming season. But you don't know until the games start.

I guess look at it this way...every vikes fan would of complained if we didn't sign Berrian, especially flying him here on Ziggy's private jet and making him stay here till we signed him. Ya we over paid but so would of another team like the 49ers or Titans and I bet they would of paid more than what we signed Berrian for. Like others have stated ya hes the 4th highest paid WR right now, but how about after next years offseason and the year after that. I'll bet his deal is bargain compared to what teams will be shelling out for "good" WR's next offseason. Look at the when we signed Steve Hutchinson and alot of vikes fan complained we signed him for way to much....well did any of you notice what Alan Faneca got this year from the Jets?? Probably not, but 5 years 40 million with 21 million bonus guarenteed!

And if you think Berrian's contract is way overpaying, the Falcons signed Michael Turner the back up to LT on the Chargers for 6 years over $34 million with $15 million guarenteed! So yes its the time of year to overpay "good to average" players, but honestly who else are you going to get that can come in now and contribute like Berrian can? Thats my question to all the nah sayers and guys saying we "overpaid"...

If you want to talk about over paying players, look at the draft picks! Unproven players making way to much!

Yeah --

When we have to pay so much for these guys it seems a little crazy but if that is what the market says -- Berry will be a good player. Not a great one but a good one. I think it will let Rice and the rest get better as well.

If we were going to over pay for a player I'm glad it was him not that reject from the Raiders!

There definitely won't be any harm in picking up Berrian. Sure there are better receivers out there but we have to be realistic with who we could get to come here.

Not that there free agent acquisitions will help all that much. They still need a good DE, preferably one that can stay healthy. Overall the pass rush just isn't anywhere near what it should be, and the superbowl is a perfect example of what a good pass rush can do for you. I also think they need someone for the right side of the line.

there is nothing average about michael turner. the only reason he isnt already a star is that he was stuck behind LT. the kid is the real deal

I am very glad the Vikes have jumped into free agency the way they have. I also think the Vikes should be looking for a backup left tackle. I think our present left tackle will be spending alot of extra time with his kids this Fall if the allegations prove to be true.

Does everyone remember Hutchinson and his contract? They were saying the same things when he was the highest paid Guard ever.

Well, now it appears we got him on the cheap. Its likely contracts are going to continue to rise and hopefully we can say something similiar about Berrians contract. Its a high amount, but we had cap space and the ownership wants to put a solid squad on the field.

McKinnie will miss 1-2 games this fall if any. He will have to go through the trial and I'm sure there is another part of the story. Its funny how you never hear about what the bouncers do to provoke until the case gets dismissed or ever for that matter. Time will tell.

We'll see what Brady Quinn brings to the table...I'm not convinced he'll be the stud he was projected to be. There is a reason he dropped like a rock on draft day...

I came up with at least 15 recievers I would rather have that are better than Berrian....and to those that say great now we have a good wr that will get double teamed...his name isn't Berrian it is Rice.......Sid Rice is our best WR on the squad...mark it down!!!!

I will say that Berrian is an upgrade at the WR position from the guys we had last year. Heck, even I would be an upgrade from last year. 6yr and $42 million dollars with $18 mil guaranteed.

71 Receptions for 951 yards and 5 TD's. 25 players had more rec. than him(Including the great Jerricho Cotchery had more catches). 25 players had more yards than him(Including Dwayne Bowe and Roddy White who don't have a QB). I think we overpaid for him but you go to do what you got to do . \:\/

I like Rice, and I think he will be an awsome reciever, and I think Berrian will assist in making him one, they cant double cover both of them, and watch our running game!

I would agree with that 100%....Berriam is a nice pick up though, spendy yes, but necessary.

yep with berrian I think it is going to help Rice and Adrian and yes they over paid him but that is the nature of the beast when you are the "best" available free agent at your position.......

i would agree in saying that i think rice has the makings and desire to be a stud. he definitely would have made a difference down the stretch last year had he not gotten hurt.

At least some Queens fans get it. Yes you did overpay for him, can he help you? He can't hurt. It's funny that I am on this end of this conversation because I am usually on the other end, listening to Twinkie fans complain about my White Sox spending too much money. They seem to relish the cheapness of the Twinkie ownership and talk about growing their own talent and small ball and all that stuff. Kind of funny hearing them talk out of the other side of their mouths!

Its different for us to Windy, this is all uncharted waters for us MN fans, we normally dont have a team that is willing to spend money. So some of us get excited about it.

Well...Windy MLB and NFL is too totally different conversations.

The Twins small ball it and will have some bumpy stretches after losing the 2 faces of the organization...at least we aren't the Pale Hose...a blind squirrel can find a nut sometimes!

Berrian was overpaid, Berrian will fit well in a purple jersey, Berrian and Rice on the outside will make it hard for teams to stack the box, Wade in the slot will have a similiar year to last year, and AP will run wild!

Anyone hear if the Vikes signed anyone else, or who they are all after since last night? I know they want Odem now, but if he is still available after tomorrow.

I hate to call you out on this but overpaying is overpaying, in the MLB or NFL. Just depends on which team is doing the overpaying I guess. I never said that overpaying was a bad thing, just pointed out that you did overpay for Berrien and that we got Briggs for a steal (this was the same package that the Bears offered him 2 years ago). My thoughts have always been, if it ain't my money then price is no object. I hope the Bears and Sox spend till their owners eyes fall out and I hope the Queens and Twinks owners suddenly develop a case of "alligator arms"!

And Tisosy,

Sox-3 Championship Rings...Twinks-2

Bears-1 Superbowl Ring...Queens-0

You do the math.

The Bengals have reportedly agreed to terms with DE Antwan Odom.

It appears they never let him out of the building.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
