How many years is my PowerPro good for?

I have 50# PowerPro on my AbuGarcia baitcaster that I use sturgeon fishing every April and muskie fishing a few times a year. I've been on three trips sturgeon fishing and probably musky fished 5 times(without catching a fish).

How many years is my line good for? Will it be okay for this years sturgeon trip? Thanks for any replies.

You should be fine. One thing you might want to do is unspool and respool with the older section of line first. That stuff underneath should be like new. I usually do that at the start of each season. I think I might be on yr 3 or 4 now.

Find a tree, tie PP around it. Hit free spool and start walking. Cut knot at reel, walk back to tree and respool.

Look around and see how many neighbors are scratching their heads.

DTRO you must have a big yard or some very understanding neighbors. When I tried to unspool/respool one time it set up an old spool and wound the line on and then put the line back on the reel it worked pretty well but it is very time consuming now I just cut off the used stuff.

Funny Story.... We were camping at Carlos State park near Alex last fall doing some musky fishing. So my bro thinks he needs to put some new line on and I tell him to do what DTRO just said. Well he wrapped it around a tree and started walking and out comes this couple from the woods on a walk. I look over just as she hits the line and drops like a sack of potatoes Right in her tracks. After a few laughs she was alright. So just make sure there is no one walking around when your doing it.

LOL, I have done the same exact thing as Dtro... I had enough line on my reel that I needed to use a few trees in my yard and make large loops.. It all went back on just fine. I have had the same power pro on for 5 years on one of my flipping sticks.

One thing that I have done is take an empty spool the line comes on, run a long skinny bolt through the center with a washer and nut on the end. Then hook it up to a screwgun and unwind! You can then remove the bolt and either toss the whole spool of line or respool backwards to reuse braided line.

Score another one for the walk thru the neighborhood!! Only difference is that I use the hitch on my truck, works great and really helps pack the line on uniformly across the spool.

Another option if you're worried about the neighbors thinking you've gone off the deep end is to go the the local ball field and tie up to a soccer goal post or backstop!

one thing i forgot to add; one trick to use while doing this is to tie your line onto/into a swivel. as you reel the line back on, keep tension on it. it will lay on the spool better and help with any twist. del

Just make sure your dog is not running around the yard when you do the line flipping trick...that was ugly.

I bought a power line winder, and do the same thing only in my basement. You just need an exact spool.
