Hot jumbo bite on the deep mud right now. Caught on green skittles... buy 4 or 5 bags and sort out all the green ones grin.gif

The bites been slow. There are some groups that are starting to catch a few perch but the little ones are still really presistent. There has been limited walleye traffic yet. If you want to go for perch, target deep gravel. I haven't heard much from the flats buts its always worht a try.

Tough bite out there. Tons of lookers and tons of tiny perch to feed on. If you have a back up plan I would use it.

I have a house out on the lake and I am about ready to call the resort and tell them to pull it off. I have decided that I am not going to waste another weekend up there when there are so many other options. I've talked to a lot of people and it's the same story, a lot of lookers, but no takers.

Honestly, it really isn't worth the trouble. It has gone from mediocre during early ice, to very tough as of late. If you're after walleyes (which your FM name seems to indicate) I would definitely consider an alternate lake. In fact, we were at a bait shop in Isle last weekend getting minnows and a customer pointed to the map of Mille Lacs hanging on the wall and asked the guy behind the counter where the fish are biting and without missing a beat he said "Red Lake" with a big smile on his face.

Good luck!

Boy this is bad news. I've got a trip planned for this weekend to the 'Big Pond.' Been looking forward to if for some time. I was hoping to have a shot at catching a few. Oh well, I guess I'll just give it my best shot. The beer will taste the same.

You'll still have a good time Fitz, it's always fun to head up there. If you're willing to move a lot, you may even be able to dial it in. I just don't know that I would recommend someone go out of their way right now to plan a trip to ML if they're dead set on getting into good walleye bite. If that is the goal, there are better options available.

My formula for sucess:

- Make sure you're setup and fishing at sunrise/sunset

- Run and gun during the day

- Have an ample supply of your vice of choice (beer, cigars, etc)

i uusally read and dont post be here goes any ways. The bite has been tougher but its even tougher to catch fish sitting on the couch watching tv.Been up there the last three saturdays and have kept 2 to 3 fish each time. The fish are still there just have to be on the biters when they go.The bite hasnt lasted long, maybe five or ten minutes some times.Need to be ready or move when things are going. There is hope, get out and fish.Burl.

Fishing has been very TERRIBLE.... This is all I have to say about this lake... Perhaps it got fished out? Seems like the walleye population is so LOW....

This winter bite is terrible, I think it has a lot to do with late summer fishing. All the fish that get released die. I don't understand why people continue to fish in late summer and pull thoughs hogs through that hot water. Oh well, plenty of better lakes around to fish and not have to worry about the netting as well.

if anyone has a drinking problem dont fish mille lacs this winter. The lackluster bite will only make you want to drink more!

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
