Here it is I hope I have deb on this trip and I will be with frank and JR on this years outing. But we will be building a new house to help deb out so I will be there as well. I might need some help with the house for us to go smirk.gif. I am not asking you to give up on fishing just to lend a hand so we can go and meat you and have fun smile.gifcool.gif/

I am available usually on weekends Tom but might be able to lend a hand during a weeknight evening if you need it. Let us know when you get it started.

I would suggest that all that are planning on attending should look into their rooms before they are gone. I reserved two doubles at the Paddle Inn in Ely and they are filling.

last year I needed to go to Tower and thats a few miles.

The big snowmobile fun run also is that Saturday, and that's why Ely motel rooms fill fast. Get yours TODAY! grin.gif

Steve,

Near as I can remember from Chunky's fairly accurate description of the "spot", its just around the corner from where I caught my first 3 lakers on Bside last year. smirk.gif

I'll try to stay off it! wink.gif

You are so right though about so many spots to try. This summer I was only out there twice but I paid alot of attention to the graph and kept trolling. We missed some good stuff last year by just a little bit.

Justin,

All I can say is: We better back the smack up!

Oh dude!!! You know who will be out there for 2 solid weeks scouting before the Bash, right?? We will be stacking 'em up like cord wood, man! cool.gif

Well, not exactly, Wanderer. A guy's gotta introduce a bit of misdirection now and then. A man who won't lie to protect his fishing spot doesn't care much about his fishing spot. grin.gif

OH! So I can fish that whole area guilt free!!!

I really liked 3 or 4 spots there. It was interesting to pick it apart. We wanted to try some of it last year but stayed with known spots instead.

I went over where I did catch my fish and it turned out to be one very small hard spot with no significant depth change from the surrounding water. I still marked activity on it this summer. My two buddies didn't even mark anything as close as 50 feet from me last ice season.

Basically the spot seems like its worth an hour maybe, but a worthwhile try any time I'm near it.

Ya I guess so Cheffrey. I just called and got the big corner room with 3 beds and the room BD110 and Skipperskid had last year. #4 and #6 I guess.

I would call asap and get rooms there. Sounds like FMers are already filling him up.

This thread was good that it started now cause there would be no rooms left if it waited till next month

Geez, they're going to have to rename the Paddle Inn just due to all the Bside Basher Crashers. grin.gif

that's too funny steve. i think i got it out of my system last year though. I'll be at the paddle with Cheffrey and his better half. I'll have my sled and otter with this year, so I should be a little more productive out on the ice.

I'm sure they have room for the one and only Chuck Norris school of life.

Sorry Wanderer, Quickstrike was dubbed that name last year at the bash after we found him in the middle of the park hugging ice sculptures.

No offense he was only 6 days before you registered.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
