Great info. I justed learned of the live bait at Joe's. I was checking out the ice shakes they had set up and checked out the live bait area. They have all that will be needed to meet my needs if I hit the ice local.

The new Gandr Mtn in Burnsville sells bait. There is also a bait vending machine outside for when the store is closed.

Hawg,
Thought I'd tell ya about Twin Pines Bait on Hwy 65 in East Bethel/Ham Lake. Owners name is Clay, good guy, he used to have the bait shop in Forest Lake until he lost his Lease because they needed "ANOTHER" fast food place in town, anyways he is the guy to go to if no one else has "THE" live bait(Shiners/chubs at certain times of the year) -RR4

for those in the Maple Grove/Rogers area, the Daytona Market on the corner of Co. Rd 81 and Co. Rd. 101 sells bait. Very reasonable too.

Does any of the above carry frozen smelt? I wanted to try some on a tipup. If not, what's the preferred bait for northern?

Another place to buy bait that nobody knows about is Robbinsdale Farm and Garden. They carry crappie minnows, suckers, and wax worms. In the summer you can get leaches and nightcrawlers too. Only place in robbinsdale that sells minnows.

Vedo's in Spring Lake Park off off Hwy 65 across from the High School is where I usually get my bait before heading out.
I will have to try that one up in East Bethel off 65, I have been reading how nice the guy is there.

There is also a bait store in Osseo right off County Rd. 81, next to Perkins. The sign says "Guns & Bait."
