Big Sag - where is Devil's Walk Bay?

5 posts in this topic

I have been trying to figure out where Devil's Walk Bay is on Big Saganaga, if anyone can help me out. I have a pretty good map with all the names of bays and islands, but I do not see Devil's Walk.

Thanks for any information provided.

Todd

It is a bay on the South side of the lake a bit East of Red Rock Bay.

May I suggest you stop at the bait stations in Grand Marais and pick up a map of Sag. They have some decent ones up there. The last time I was at the Holiday station there, I saw at least two different ones that were really decent for there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I had planned on stopping at a local bait shop anyway, and other than bait I was going to look for a better map. I'm just trying to get a lay of the lake ahead of time so I can try to make up travel plan.

I have never been to Saganaga but from what I am told it is much larger than a map makes it appear. I don't want to have to criss cross the lake is I don't have to.

Thanks again for the information.

You really need to be careful out by the islands in the middle. You will be going along and bam up come several reefs out there. Be careful wink.gif The lake is very clear and watch the color differances in the bottom, if you see light color stop your shalloow.

Another caution with Devils Walk, on the north side of the island there is a rock that will reach up and say hello, I'm sure a close look will reveal some Grumman colors and metal smile.gif I hit it a couple years back as I thought I was far enough away from the main island. There is some good fishing to be found in there though.

The Bay is so different from the Lake.  The heavy breeze is keeping the lake open.  Things calm down Fri to Sun that will most likely freeze the lake over.  Then we get strong winds again on Mon to Wed that could likely blow it open again.  You may be able to fish the bay, but I am doubting the lake.  JMHO.  I can wait, but I am getting the itch.

I have a 2015 21' Ice Castle RV that has two house batteries. I added the second to the house. It will run the furnace fan all night but it is running a lot slower by morning. There is a noticeable increase in fan speed when I start the generator in the morning. I am thinking of adding a third battery to the house to make up the difference.

Any area ice reports? I'm hearing that most of the smaller bodies of water in the area have now frozen over. Should make it out sometime this weekend to try my luck . Good luck, and please stay safe
