camping on lake

3 posts in this topic

heading up next friday, was going to go to different lake camping but hear the bite has been off the last year or so. Been to vermillion only twice but i seem to remember seeing some dnr campsite out on islands around the place. not looking for a resort just looking for a place i can beach my boat and camp for the weekend. Are they hard to find, not many of them etc, or if i come friday afternoon is it usually easy to find a vacant one?

Thanks a lot

Beaching The boat?

How about grazzing the rocks?

There's a selection of Free, first come first servce campsites. South side of Hinsdale, both sides of the red and green on the southside of Smarts, NW side of Pine ( may have a beach)

They aren't to hard to find, Some maps have them marked. They do fill up quickly on the weekends especially holiday weekends and good weather weekends.

Going to hit it tomorrow. Haven't decided where we will but in at the junction or head towards birchdale. Have heard varying fishing reports. Any info is appreciated! Tight lines everyone!

I was up for my first trip to RR on Wednesday and Thursday. Launched at Birchdale Wednesday morning because it was the only one open. Launched at Vidas on Thursday.  Fished the ice edge as it pushed westward for some of both days with minimal success. Caught a 28.5" and 26.5" on consecutive casts on Wednesday but not much other action at ice edge.  We had our most success at the connection of the Rapid River (just west of Vidas Landing). Caught about 45 walleyes total with a 28" and 26" being the biggest from that spot.  We also hooked up with 15 sturgeon, landing 4 of them. A 66", 60" and finished the trip landing two sturgeon in the same net (a 42" and 32", or so).  It was an amazing experience and I will be back again in the upcoming years!
