How do you know LakeMaster WILL do the small Ottertail County lakes soon? What are there, like, 200 of them that the DNR has mapped on their LakeFinder website? LakeMaster currently has only 21 Ottertail County lakes on their 2007 product, and only 3 of those (Ottertail, Rush, and West Battle) are hi-def. (That's a pretty minor addition of 5 new low-def lakes and 2 upgrades to hi-def from their 2006 chip.) Navionics at least has 113 Ottertail County lakes, but the only one they list as hi-def is "Big Stone Lake on the Ottertail/Crow Wing border." (That's gotta be a typo... can someone locate that one for me?)

More power to ya, Mapman. Looking forward to seeing a "Mapman's Hi-Def Ottertail County Lakes" SD chip for my Lowrance ExpeditionC. laugh.gif

Thanks, Schweady! I like the name "Mapman's Hi-Def Ottertail County Lakes" I'm working every day to see what is going to be the best way to start this. I am trying to decide if I should get a few lakes out and start there or build a library of lakes this summer and have a them availble next spring or maybe this fall.

Ha ha! sounds great. I guess I've been hearing that digital maps are what everybody would like to see. I guess my intention was to start with paper maps and then digital versions of the same map later.

I think this is a great idea. Of course, my first choice would be elbow lake just west of Battle Lake since my mom lives on it. It definitely fits your criteria for a small lake, and it does have public access on CR 83. Although I have a laptop with GPS, I haven't graduated to something on a boat yet, a paper map would be fine (you could probably do well with downloadable PDF map files that folks could just print out.) My wife had an online costume store for several years, so I'd be happy to talk to you about the pro's and con's of an online business. I think what you're doing is a great idea and I salute you!

Mapman:

I am curious...

What is on your mind for a price for the maps?

Could you share something regarding what kind of technology you are using to create the maps?

I would like to have a conversation about this...

Sorry Everybody I've been very busy and I haven't had time to check the thread. Okay, as far as price I would think I would be around $20 for a water-proof map 24"x36". Which is very large. A digital version I am working on. I'm currently working on building my data base with mapped lakes. I will start to have some available at the end of summer. As for my technology I'm still developing but I'm interested in investors. I do have a lake completed that I was thinking of getting some maps printed very soon its Jewett lake north of Fergus Falls. Thanks all.

Again,I've been really busy with work. I'm still working on my projects slowly. My biggest setback is time, and then money. I would like to do all sorts of things with my equipment but the money issue is always a factor. This was supposed to be a hobby and I'm not sure what it is turning into. Is there a certain lake your interested in? Maybe we could set up something.

...and I forgot, I'd be interested in Fladmark lake in Maplewood state park- ideally a PDF I could print out!

Funny that you would mention that lake.

I have recently been up to the park to plan out a survey of the lakes in the park including Fladmark! I'll post when I have something.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
