Big Lake

3 posts in this topic

I was out on Big Lake Sunday. The surface water temp in the shallows was 48-49 degress. There were small sunfish in some of the shallow areas but marked most fish still suspended in deep water. Caught a few tiny sunnies on waxworms is all before calling it quits on that lake for another week or so.

Has anybody else been out over the weekend on area lakes? Any reports on fish movement or water temps?

I live on the public access to Big Lake. I would appreciate anyone using this access to call the DNR and complain about the road.

I complained after speaking with you on the way to the access although they did not sound very interested and gave no commitments to fix the wash outs one way or the other.

I crossed over to the dark side of smallies about 15 years ago. Mostly chase pannies in winter but used to chase eyes a few times on the hard water each season.   I could post a ton of pics if you need more proof.

Sorry to make you hold up a bottom feeder, but we needed to see it!

I was up over the weekend and my shoreline was getting pretty sketchy.  Had a pocket of open water down the shore about a 100 yards. Where I could see the bottom in two to three feet of water.  Walked out about a hundred yards and popped four holes Saturday afternoon. There was 17- 18.5"s of ice in those four holes. Looking at the forecast I can't see the ice sticking around too much longer.  The holes I popped had 5-6" of pretty mushy cloudy stuff on top and about 12"s of pretty solid stuff underneath it.
