Minnesota Fishing Report Clubs - ONLY 20 FREE MEMBERSHIPS Per Area - Join Today - FREE   03/08/2018

Fishing Minnesota has added a new menu item (see above) called Fishing Report Clubs. It's a way to keep the really good fishing reports coming and being shared only with those who also provide detailed fishing reports. We will only approve new members who request to join if they have already posted a recent fishing report in the area forum, associated with the Fishing Report Club area  you want to join. Initially we are going to limit the number of regular memberships, in the Fishing Report Clubs, to the top 20 members in each Club, to those with the best frequency and quality fishing reports provided in the club and less so in the regular fishing report forum open to all members. The higher quality fishing report reserved for the club of course. If  you want see detailed fishing reports/tips  around your area and will share your detailed fishing report as soon as you join, then Join Now! Some of the clubs are starting to fill fast. Use the Fishing Reports Club link in the Menu above (after you've posted a fishing report in the regular area forum) and request to Join.

Ice Fishing Season Over?

Recommended Posts

I made my first ever trip to Red last Spring. It was a tremendous area. Something that should be there for all to enjoy. It was sad yo see the, shall we say, unfriendlyness that exist between the tribe and non-tribe members. I know it has developed this way over decades, but I hope all sides would look more at the possibilitys than what has gone wrong in the past. I would think the lake could be a greater resorce for the tribe than any casino could ever be.

I will be there again the last week of may. I come from North Central Iowa and love the area. I wish you were not 8 hours away, but I guess that is what makes your area so special.

I like to fish and love to hunt! We have great Whitetails in Iowa but I would bet you have some nice bucks up there.

Oh, by the way, is the ice season over? I read with great envey all of the ice fishing reports. I hope to get up there and experience 1 time. Also, when is the latest the ice has ever gone out?

Enjoy where you all live, it is a VERY SPECIAl place, I would guess if you live there you might sometimes forget how special it is!

Ice fishing season is not over yet. I drove my atv out today from West Wind with no problems. We are going to have some cold weather for the next couple of days which should make it easy to get out. With the snow we got last night the snowmobile should go good, and make it easier to cross the pressure ridge.

The latest I'v ever seen the ice on the lake was is 97 or 98. My dad and I walked out on the ice on walleye opener in May.

I didn’t drive out yesterday afternoon but trucks were it was just the access that was pretty slushy. The lake was great for walking as well as the weather. Fish were biting good in about 7 feet of water.  I like the later sunset much better for working in a little fishing at the end of the day.

I read somewhere a large bow fishing pressure has removed tons of common carp/buffalo from the lakes so much so the avg size of carp has drastically fallen, in other lakes in my research (bass lakes in the south)  some bass year classes have become malnourished since the heavy bow fishing pressure, starting in about 2012 on...granted these are man made lakes with few spawning wetlands, but bait fish populations are up yet the fish show classic big head small bodies consistent with malnourishment, some biologists blame catch and release  for too many bass, yet the baitfish survey suggests plenty of food (thread fin and gizzard shad) Common carp are surprisingly nutritious, more so than even rainbow trout, we see the effect of bass that feed on trout in western lakes.  carp eggs and larva are very tiny and seem to be a significant prey item, at least in areas the year 0 fish can't hide in winter killed wetlands before they migrate back into the main lake areas. water clarity is mentioned to be up and that can happen when carp get removed, its mentioned walleyes do better in water a little less clear?
