Monitoring Monster bucks

7 posts in this topic

Wouldn't it be neat if they could implant a deer with a device that you could monitor there where abouts on the internet. I think they could come up with a way to do that without being able to use that info for hunting purposes. Just use it for enjoyment and to see how close people really come to seeing the big boys. Any thoughts or additions to this post would be appreciated wink.gif

Great idea but the issue would be to get initally close enough to get the GPS device planted in the Big Boy.

Wait we are back at step one again...

ALREADY DONE!!!! Well almost... I dont know where you look it up. But Dr. Deer- James Kroll and some others have implated a camera on a wild bucks antlers. I dont think they tell us WERE it is but you can watch it ANYTIME on-line and its "real time" "live". Also there is sound on your computer for any vocalizations the deer make.

It looks pretty neat but I really dont know the details. Maybe someone else who knows more will post something. Try to search it??? wink.gif

I think I watched that on OLN but I thought it was on a game farm plus I thought it was a GPS device not a camera because the rack was worth $$ and they wanted the sheds.

Slimngrizzly is correct. They have a camera mounted on the head of a deer, not sure if its a buck or not. You can pull it up on your computer anytime and see what the deer is seeing, live. There is a cost though. I think its like $40 a year or something.

I think stoney point is good for wheelers only.  Tried horseshoe bay and followed the pressure ridge and could not find a place to cross.  Went back to Whipholt which had a good landing and went toward stoney point  Had to cross a small pressure ridge by the Island.  Once crossed, all the way to stoney  with no problem  fishing was SLOW, tried the deepest part of the Paris Trench all the way to 24ft. thinking of one last trip this weekend

Thanks for the update, I completely understand why you choose to post this here instead of a different thread. I haven't been on the ice in WEEKS now, might be retiring the ice gear for the season and waiting for open water pannie season...Or the big lake.

Hey monstermoose Im in princeton or by Longsiding.  I think I have a decent spot as the farmer says he sees them out there a lot.  Never found a better scout than a farmer.  Just havent hunted turkey much.  I appreciate the generous offer and the advice. Looking forward to watching my boys get the turkey fever.  Last year I would have hit you up for those spots as we did some sitting in blind to watch the sun come up. Thanks all for the advice and helping a new turkey hunter out.

Know a guy that is out there today.  Unfortunately he is not fishing as he got hung up a breaker this morning.     The main sheet sounds like it is fairing well.  They have been accessing the lake from Whipholt and driving across.  Long drive.  Not sure about other accesses.
