Ely area camping next week 8/24-2

Recommended Posts

Hello all- Have always gone to Kab area in past, tent camp, and need some advice on your area for next week. Not going into BWCA to fish, would like some ideas for camping, fishing from canoe or small hp boat (to rent and where) and general smaller lakes for camp/fish . Not bringing our boat this time up. I'm the little woman so not big on areas with known bears coming into camp every day. Thanks F10

Fiesty:

Try the Lodge of Whispering Pines on Big Lake. The lake is north of Ely on the Echo trail. They have a few campsites that are right on the water's edge.

Last time we camped there, we had no problems with bears coming into camp at night, but that might have changed. They were running dog sleds and the dogs were more than likely keeping them away.

Nice drive up to the lodge, very peacefull, they have canoes or boats to rent also.

Big Lake is a beautiful location. I'm in and out of there all the time photographing.

Thanks, just worried that the jazz festival might make getting a site difficult that close. Any ideas on where we can rent a small fish boat with motor. Love the Bears, just not as midnight guests, but will have our Irish Setter with us this time, she's been soooo goood all summer and needs a break. More worried about her reaction and barking at them. F10

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.
