If you do a Yahoo search for Minnesota Gas Prices there is a site that tells you gas prices for all over the state. All of the information is reported by customers/passer-bys so some of the areas are a little spotty with reports, but almost all of the bigger towns are updated daily.

For the past two years, and I am unable to explain why, I have found that Hibbing is typically about $.08 - $.10 less than anywhere I pass on my way up there. Two weeks ago I left Osakis and everything was higher by about $.02. I get to Hibbing and it is $.10 lower than Osakis and even nearby Chisholm and Nashwauk.

The reason for this is the WxxMxxt Superstore. All of the gas stations in town are low in order to compete with them. Price this AM was $2.98 per gal

Typically the gas in Cloquet and Scanlon is around the same price as Hibbing for the same reason...

Thanks, beats the $3.20+ around here. Think its 3.25, later.

The Station in Cloquet next to the Wal Mart is the areas best price. It's on the North bound side of the highway at the south end of town. Cook and Orr always seem to be .06 to .10 higher than Cloquet. Jims on the corner of Hwy 53 and Ash River Trail is usually less than Orr by a few cents.

Cheapest gas in Minnesota is the gas someone came into our garage and stold, while my wife and I were working in the back yard! About 6-8 gallons in three different plastic gas cans.

Someone had also tried to get the gas out of the tank in my boat...had to be kids, they tried to unscrew the fitting in the tank and had the hose all twisted up....all they would have had to do is unsnap the hose connection, one little pinch and it would have been theirs!

Even though I have locking gas caps, I'm running all 4 trucks at 1/4 to 1/2 tank, unless I have to go somewhere far....if I get hit, they won't get as much!

What does the Lake map chip run for it?

Great tip Big A.  Was in exact scenario and picked one up myself.  Right after ordered the universal Lowr. pack from cabelas.  Had a 597 on old boat that sold, loved the unit for ice, excited to see how Lowrance is this time around.  Will sit next to the Garmin in boat for GPS, not a big fan of the Lakevu

There are certainly areas on the West end of Vermilion that walleyes can spawn at. Quite a few years ago walleyes were tagged at the Pike River Hatchery and some of them were caught on the West end a couple of weeks later! So walleyes will certainly travel full length of Vermilion to spawn also! Cliff

Walleyes are known to travel very long distances to spawn.  Lots of tracking studies done on other bodies of water show annual spawning movements of 50 miles or more commonly being made.  That puts the entire lake well within range for any given walleye that wants to make a long spawning run.   My question is this...are there spawning grounds on the West end of the lake?  Or, are most of the walleyes - includng those found most of the year on the West end - traveling to the East end and running up into Pike Bay to spawn?  Has anyone caught West end walleyes dripping in eggs or milt early in the season?   Brian

I can not think of any lake in the Ely area that would have 5" of ice. Even the beaver ponds in the Tower area barely have ice on them! Cliff
