Island & Boulder lake

2 posts in this topic

Hello fellow fisherman, I was wondering if anyone has ever hiked from the boulder lake dam downstream to Island lake to fish the connecting river between the two.I have caught a few small eyes' right below the dam but was thinking about walking the river down to Island. I have been checking these spots out for awhile and was wondering it anyone has every attempted hike(without a boat)to fish this spot. Probably will be hitting one of the two lakes this weekend for eyes' so any report would help

Best of luck fishing, UMDWalleyeGuy

I walked it once. It was after ice out and the water was low and I could walk all the way to Island lake. But it looks like you still can walk it even with the current water levels. I saw one decent pool up towards the dam, and 1 or 2 more down further. I have thought about fishin that many times, but just never got to it. I dont think you need to walk down from the dam though. Theres a bridge you can park by and get in from there. It may be some private property by the bridge so ya might have to park down the road a bit. No biggie though. Let me kow how ya do. I am gonna be campin on a island sunday night all thru the week. So maybe I will run into you, I got a lime green tri hull. Good luck.

I grew up in this area and if walk in a ways  you can be all by yourself. Best time deer hunting can be during duck season when people are moving the deer.

Send me a pm for some ideas in the area. I plan on hunting Dayton and Monticello mainly but if those don't work out I need some backup plans.

I am with you, net_man.  I *hate* that I can't C&R walleyes in the fall.  I mean, what's hooking mortality at 6-12 ft deep with artificial lures in October and November?  I've never had a fish not swim away, and I can't remember one that didn't do it in a hurry.  Drives me crazy, as fall trolling on Mille Lacs is one of my favorite ways to catch fish.  This year, thanks to the weather, we did get out in December...and the fishing was nuts.  If only we had been able to be out all fall...   I wonder if the night ban in the fall (even if we haven't hit our quote) has more to do with enforcement than anything else.  I have no idea what's said at meeting I ain't invited to.
