Shaminau Perch???

6 posts in this topic

went up to Shammy last Sun and instead of finding the walleyes we go into some really nice perch in 11' of water with a jig and small shiners. It was really fun and we kept 7 and a 16" eye for a great fry for me and the family. Hope everybody gets out and has fun! we must ahve caught 30 perch all of some size but not all keepers. I have never found that on shammy before anybody else ever run into them?

My Grandparent's have a place on Saamineau. I've fished that lake a lot, but never caught many perch. We've caught them before, but we usually catch small ones when we're fishing for sunnies. Sometime we'll catch them when fishing for walleyes as you stated.

genofish is right. Walleye action on Shamineau is very sparce, especially within the last few years.

I'm about to fish this lake for the first time, could anyone give me some tips or advice for walleye? Any certain spots I should be targeting?

Any help would be great. Thank you.

Ole

We had a good bite on 1/2 crawlers today! Boated 45 walleyes and kept our limits of fish that were all between 15-1/2" and 19-3/4 "! Released at least 6 slot fish. Largest was a fat 25-1/2 inch fish. Best over all sized fish limit all summer! The walleyes were stuffed with either May fly nymphs or molted crayfish.

I've fished the hex hatch many times. In wisconsin. The hexs are out at my lakevplace in grand rapids Mn.  its usually a little later on the river. So this weekend into next week and the following week ought to be good. Late in the evening.. like  9:30 on...  I haven't been to the straight for years... I wish you'd let me know how it goes...

6/24/17     Got out on Washington this morning to target walleyes. Cold and windy! Busy today--a bass tournament going on. We fished several spots with leeches under a slip float for eyes. Only caught one small one, and missed a couple bites that might have been walleyes. Did catch several medium to large smallies and one largemouth. Got off the lake about 10:00 as we saw the first wave of rain approaching. Not interested in fishing cold, wind-driven rain. Guess mother nature doesn't always look at the calendar, which said summer started this week. Good luck, and I will see you out there somewhere.

Just back from Big Sandy, fished the main basin and concentrated on two humps. Caught five walleye and kept three that were in the slot, all about 15 inchers. Quit sooner than planned as the wind really started kicking up. Leeches, lindy rigs, red hooks and a green bead did the trick. Tried spinners and crawlers with no luck. All were caught in 9 - 12 FOW.   BIG fire in McGregor this morning, a trucking business on the east end of town burnt down.

Alright, so I got out yesterday in the early afternoon I decided to go try the Mississippi there is this little public boat dock, so I dropped a line there and within the hour I got a Northern Pike it was about 24 inches long and then about a half hour I pulled in a blacktail redhorse an it was about 12 or 13 inches long. So not a bad day out there on the river for dock fishing! I caught both the fish on them green night crawlers, I also tried throwing out a crank, a jig, and a watermelon Senko. All they wanted was them green worms! Thanks for the tips I finally caught a couple fish (hopefully there is more to come)
