Upper Red this past Sunday

3 posts in this topic

My son and I fished with Bear Paw on Sunday and had a great time. He had us follow him out to 14' of water and we started about 7:30 am. The fishing was constant until we left at noon with our limits of hugh crappies and some nice perch. We also had 9 walleyes with the largest at 18" and of course they were released. Thanks Bear Paw for a great morning! Red glow jigs in the shape of a demon with a crappie minnow did the trick, 2' off the bottom.

Sounds like you had a great trip. We did the opposite of you. We fished out of Hillmans Friday in 14 feet of water from 3:30PM to 8 AM Sat. We kept 26 beautiful Red Lake crappies. They bit all night. They were going pretty good at midnight. Pulled stakes and went to Lake of the Woods after that. Kept 15 walleye and saugers.

What a great weekend.

I want to thank everyone for the reports and sharing your info with us on this site. It made for a great trip.

FOOTDOC,

Were you the ones out in the shack at the end of his road??

We were in his small 2 man sleeper just about 150 yards before that, green toyota and a couple sleds on a trailer sitting outside. I had my portable over past there on friday for awhile but the fish were hitting so well inside the house there was no reason to move around.

We hit the road around 10:30am to beat the snow back to Duluth.

I'll be out this wknd and got 3 spots to try out so still debating which one will be the ticket. The past couple weeks I've been getting some while crappie fishing.  Going to be shore fishing so FYI the water level is pretty high right now with all the rain from few weeks ago. A wader would be handy if you have one.  Good luck n be safe out there.

Found a half dozen good size crappies on Clear Lake in Waseca Sunday.  Just off the bottom in 8 feet of water, minnows under bobbers.  Water temp was 58 on the east side of the lake, which was a full degree above the rest of the lake.

yepper, almost 30 between the 2 of us in the slack water next to fast water. kinda hard to fish in that fast water when it's moving so fast...

We were using both, but the number of fish caught was definitely based on..... location, location, location - slack water during high flows is where it's at buddy.
