Bait shops

Recommended Posts

fishing 101

Are there any good bait shops on the west side of the lake? We are going to be coming up there the end of Jan, and it will be our first time. Just checking to see what bait shops you guys recommend.

Where are you coming from. If your coming up on 169 you may want to stop at Prince's bait just north of Milaca. I like there portions of minnows. There is also Lundeens by Onamia, and the gas station across from them has bait as well.

I think Prince's is closed on Sundays - I like their scoops too, but doesn't help if they're not open

I agree Princes has good bait. But they never seem to know what is happening on the lake. Lundeens seems to know what is happening on the lake.

Your prolly right walleyehawk, but im sure Prince knows just about as much as Lundeens, and plus you ever check out the prices for fatheads on Princes compared to Lundeens or Meleens??? Its a joke to buy bait up by Onamia, when you can get alot more bait, and better quality for a cheaper price at Princes than up by the lake, its a tourist trap even Dairy Queen is high priced for their meals lol. Only bad thing about Princes is it shut down for sundays, oh well i know they get alot of business and keep getting their customers to go back including me.

How early do they (Princes) open? And How do you get there? I'm heading up to the big pond in a week and will need bait. Also what are they (Walleyes, Pike, Perch) biting on.

Thanks guys, We will be heading up from the south on 169. How long does it take to get their from St Cloud? We can make it to St Cloud in 2 1/2 hours, hoping we can make the trip in less than 4.

From St Cloud to Princes Bait north of Milaca is about 25-30 minutes. From Princes to the lake is another 1/2 hour. I make it up the east side north of Isle in approx 1 hr and 10 minutes. good luck hang on. Bill

Well that is pretty sad. Had a lot of good times, burgers and dinners up there snowmobiling and 4 wheeling.   www.grandrapidsmn.com/...hill...squaw-lake/article_aa3b5546-f7ed-11e7-b45d-c34d... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjnv_rsyOrYAhUGEawKHV-ECfoQFghCMAM&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.grandrapidsmn.com%2Fnews%2Ffire-destroys-the-hill-bar-in-squaw-lake%2Farticle_aa3b5546-f7ed-11e7-b45d-c34d5b1f648a.html&usg=AOvVaw1LRiuHCFf3M7Xusreg7vdH

Nice Bluegills Ricky! Those thumbnail sized opercular flaps are super special. H e l l those are thumbers!

Well, check that one of the list. After trudging through the slush Saturday we were rewarded with a handful of undersized crappie. We'll have to try some of the options around Pelican next time. Happy, safe fishing everyone.

Beautiful weather on Sat and Sun. but plenty of traffic! No traffic today but still a very slow bite this morning. Could just be the weather change!??? Cliff

Heading to that area this weekend - Curious as too how much snow cover is on the area lakes, and whether it's even worth bringing the wheelhouse?

I spent 3 hours last Saturday morning working on “the catalog” then went about my weekend, planning to finish at the end of the weekend.  Went to open it up and the new laptop won’t make pictures on the screen.  Tried everything; no dice.  Have to return the piece of Black Friday junk.

Cliff, did you have a lot of vehicle traffic around you on Saturday? Maybe the bad fishing on Saturday was just the weather conditions, although Saturday was beautiful weather-wise.

Same here. Thursday was a good bite and the weekend bite was mostly a bust! Cliff

I think he's going to not wash it and keep telling everyone at the bait store and on the lake he's a Pro Staff on HSO & Outdoors Minnesota. Until someone sends him a HSO hoody or new hat!
