694 bridge?

7 posts in this topic

I think this is the right forum... Does anyone know of a 24 hr place to launch a boat so I can fish in the area of 694? I used to fish there when I lived in St. Anthony and I used to catch quite a few catfish from shore.

As far as I know there isn't a ramp open 24/7. I wouldn't really trust that area anyway because it is quite shallow.

Maybe if fish-n-geek has a chance to get online he'll be able to help you out better than I can. He's a tad bit more familiar with the area.

There is the Camden Launch on the westside of the River they have a nice fishing pier and plenty of parking. But like Lost said it's shallow North of the launch heading towards 694 if you use it be careful that strech of river just loves to eat props and lower units

If I'm not mistaken, there also used to be a launch area behind the apartment complex on about 75th and West River road? I know there is a park there and it seems to me, a launch also? You might want to check this out before you make any big plans with the boat, it's been along time since I've been in that area.

Wherever you go on that river, you might want to keep er idled down and have someone in the bow, with a life vest on, as a look
out! I trapped that river by canoe, for alot of years, and there are alot of shallows, boulders and old pilings that can tear up a lower unit, in short order!

And believe me, if you end up in the water, that current is alot faster and stronger then it looks! It will definately wisk you away!

I think the launches do close at 10PM in that area, well the park launches at least. The one below the 694 bridge and the one near Camden.

I used to be a park ranger in that "river front park". The park closes 1/2 hour after sunset.

Finally making it up for our first trip of the year. Strictly walleye fishing in Frazer Bay with slip bobbers around the reefs. Appreciate any fishing reports. Thanks!

tango loves going to Crooked lake!   Sand pines really works with you well for starting off. I don't know just because they were not busy but the kid stayed out with me and planted one by one until I told him to release them all. Golden meadows is nice as well. Do the pre buy program (I think if you buy before mid Aug) and the birds are a good price. They will flag all the birds if you want.   He still only weighs under 60lbs but I like it that way he is deadly fast and never gets tired   Cant wait to see how he does this season want to make a trip to the Dakotas at least once

Does anybody know of a local Alexandria shop that would install a Humminbird Helix for me?

Like Mlaker3 said... go as light as you can. The key is to try and stay vertical. It's the nature of the beast when jigging in rocks that your going to get some snags and loose some jigs.

Thanks for all info. Even if I end up staying at the kawashiwi river campground (which I've done the past 2 years), now I at least know where to drive around and scout out some spots for next trip.

Good advice! I appreciate it. And good to hear from you. I found fish over the weekend on reef tops with few if any bites. I should've moved on but 11-12" fish made me think better ones might come. The good fish I did find were on the sides of reefs.  I'm off the water for family business, but hoping for a good August!
