is there any open water near monticello?

I would like to get on the river. Just because. The winter has been too long.

Also suggestions to put in and hazards to avoid would be helpful.

thanks

Montissippi park has a launch, so does the city park downriver from there. That's all I know - haven't boated it before.

If you put in at Ellis park, you can carfuly motor to the other side of the river. Depending on water level, you can make it close to hwy 25 bridge. I don't think I would go down stream more than 100 yards. Lots of good deep water on the Big Lake side of the river. If you put in a montisippi co park, I would be very carful! It gets tuff right off the ramp, but it can be done with caution. I've seen Smallmouthking run up & down that stretch with no problems, but he is a very experienced river rat. If you have a jet, you can run just about anywhere you want.
