Catfish bar

Sinker

Recommended Posts

After Bodyman mentioned the St. Croix River map,it made think of a question I had.The map "hotspots" mentions the catfish bar a few miles south of Hudson.Supposed to be good for walleye and sauger through the ice.Real deep dropoff there but potentially dangerous ice conditions because the river narrows there and pretty good current.Has anybody fished there? How do you get to it? I drove down there off Cove road in the summer but came to private drives where I thought this place was.Any info would be appreciated.Anybody down by bayport this weekend? Good Luck Fishing!

Hey Sinker, your right about the ice on the river it can be tricky. I grew up fishing the Mississippi at LaCrosse and learned an ice spud in hand is good for checking new area. So far I have found the ice change from +20" to less then 10" in a matter of a few feet. Ive been playing it safe, you have to on the river. That cat fish bar is a spot I want to check also. I'm thinking the boat ramp from Afton may be the closest you'll get to it. If they allow access or not I'm not sure. I don't have a snow mobile or atv either. Just a pair of good legs. lol. I never keep anything except eater size sauger And walleye and a few pan fish, everything else goes back no matter how big it is. I don't need the mount to be happy, a picture is good enough and less expensive. :-) Good fishing

That area is dangerous and is very hard to access from the Minnesota side! ya It says it in print but, I've rarely seen anglers working the area...so I'm not sure what to think...

Keep catchin'

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.
