10/8 The weekend walleye bite was fair to good, the window for catching big walleyes and sauger is still wide open. Many fish (16-22 inches greatest quality of walleyes is right now)are still being taken from 20-35 feet off of sand and rock points and hard bottom breaklines. Jig and minnow presented vertically has been effective as well as trolling crankbaits. One problem for weekend anglers is the tendency to group up and all pack into the same spot. The time is ripe to jig the breaks on sand points such as Black bass, St. Mary's, and High line for pressure free jigging! Sturgeon fishing is in high swing with three legal fish (50 inch minimum, one fish per season) coming in last week at Beanies alone.
