Best week to fish.

I really enjoyed my week at Kabetogama this year (first time in MN), and hope to go again next year. So I though I might start asking about when is the best time to go.

If you had to pick one week to fish Kabetogama what week would you choose, and why?

What if you wanted to take two one week trips? Would you choose one in the spring and one in the fall?

My two picks would be the first week in June and the last week in September.

In early June most walleyes are still in the spring spots, although some have begun showing up on points and humps near the shallows. The weather is much improved over May although there could be some cool days.

Late September can have some good weather, great fall colors, and consistant walleye fishing. Fish are gennerally holding on the reefs and main channel points. In the past I usually fished the Namakan Channel, and the area surrounding Junction Bay and Namakan Island in Namakan. Fall is a good time for a houseboat trip.

In the last 4 years I've devoted most of my fall fishing attention to Rainy.

I prefer the third week of May for the early
week, or the fourth week if cabins are hard to come by. The early season has the best fishing on the West end of Kab. usually shallow water.

Late season, such as Sept., cabins or resorts usually have openings cause kids are back in school. If possible hold out as long as you can to make plans as fishing is less predictable. The East end of Kab, or the Namakan basin is usually the best area to fish in the fall. Temps usually dictate if the fish will be in typical fall patterns.

For fun and wildlife, where fishing is not the priority, the second or third week of July usually guarantee wonderful weather, with so-so fishing. guts < )))))))><
