Does anyone know how the skeeters have been or the sand flies. I'm heading up there the week of the 4th. Just wondering if we are gonna get eaten alive! I've heard the army worms are out in full force. Any info would be good so I can prepare to scratch away! Thanks!

Thanks npike! Hopefully the bugs will remain the same. It sounds from your other posts that you had some problems with your houseboat. We too are taking one but from Voyagaires in Crane Lake. I hope that we don't experience the same problems that you all did. We have used them before and they were an exellent outfitter/rental to deal with and their boats seem to be in excellent condition. I would highly recommend using them next time. Thanks for the info!

THANKS FOR THE INPUT ON THE OTHER OUTFIT. I HAVE RENTED FROM A OUTFIT IN WISC. THIS WAS A LESSER BOAT WITHOUT ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTELS BUT EVERYTHING WORKED AND WE HAD FUN. BUT WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS WE HAD THIS TIME OUT I THINK ALL MY CREW IS LAND LOCKED NEXT TIMES OUT. IN FACT I THINK ONE OF MY CREW (LAND LUBBER) ALSO POSTED UP ON THIS SITE. ITS ASHAME WHEN THINGS GO RIGHT ITS THE WAY TO GO. POST UP YOUR RESULTS WHEN YOU GET BACK . GOOD LUCK. NPIKE77

npike,

I will post when we return. If you want to check out their boats before hand, they do have a website. Just do a search under Voyagaire Houseboats. Last time we used them we had absolutely no problems and all of their equipment was first class. I will tell you how we did! Thanks!

npike,

The trip was fabulous again! Voyagaire's boats are 1st class and their knowledgable staff and help are fantastic! No worries on the boat, new engines, everything was great! Fishing was subpar but the fun and sun was great! It did rain one full day (Friday July 5th) that was the day that fishing was the best. I used a bobber and a leach and just tossed it out off the back of the boat, stayed out of the rain, played cards, and watched my bobber as some walleyes and bass fell victim to my hook! This was a couples trip (there were 6 couples on the boat) most were non-fisherman so they all didn't fish. The bugs were kind of bad as the mosquitos would decide to come out at sundown but after about 11pm, they were non existant. Great trip and I highly recommend this outfit!!!!

Thanks for update. What lakes did you fish?
If we try HB again I will keep that outfit in mind. Thanks npike77

We mostly fished on Namakan. That is where we stayed the whole time we were there. I think the wierd weather patterns that week screwed the fishing up a little. We were at a beach site which was marked as EBEL's (kind of ironic). It was a great site! About 150' of sand beach. Nice for the ladies to lay out, swim etc while we fished or drank beer! Like I said, if you go again, voyagaires is the way to go. We did experience a little prop damage but their great staff (these were knowledgable adult mechanics) had our prop changed out in 15 minutes on a crappy rainy day. All other problems were non exisistent. Except we didn't bring enough ice so they drove out 9 bags of ice for us! 1st class outfit! They don't have a DVD player and we opted not to bring the TV so they may not claim to be as fancy as EBEL's but their boats are extremely nice. I think Namakan is the better of the lakes that we traveled on for fishing (Sand Point, Crane) not sure though. Better luck next time! I hope you guys go again with a better outfit.

Looks like you could use a FM hat. 😉    The future son in law prefers the lump coal.  He’ll start it in coal starter over a propane burner, then dump in it his smoker grill as needed.   Congrats on the clean break “over there”.

Should really start a What yeah Smoking thread!    Another fun place we tried when up in Duluth. OMC stands for "Oink, Moo, Cluck" They serve pork cracklins for starter to test their sauces on.

On the east side of St. Boni. It's not too far from me. A friend lives in St Boni and loves the place. I haven't tried it yet.

First time ever going there with the wife. Little spendy but they make some darn good piles of meat! We had the brisket! 😋

I have heard it's because of the drought. I know in my area ( meeker co.) the sloughs that they trap minnows in have dried up.

Excuse my ignorance, but was is driving the bait prices? Usually the shortage is due to a late ice-out from the swamps and streams. This year should have been much better.

I should probably learn to use the 6+ containers of lures I have collecting dust in my tackle box. We got on a decent crappie bite the last couple of evenings and I broke out some plastics.  I caught some crappies on them ,just need to build my confidence in using them! I did notice they didn't seem to hold on to them as long as minnows!
