River boundaries

Anybody ever thought of this?
When fishing on the Rainy, the river is pretty much split in half with the north half being under Ontario jurisdiction and the south being under Minnesota jurisdiction. Say on a certain section of the river there is a steep bank on the Ontario side and a gradual slope to the river on the Minnesota side and we get a heavy rain and the water rises 5 ft. Now the center of the river is going to have to move more toward the Minnesota side to still be in the center and our state has become smaller in size. Is this a varying boundarie we have up there, or am I missing something?

An imaginary line down the middle, if you can imagine that. The river is always changing,levels, current flow, erosion, ect... A 5 ft. rise would be a belly gusher though.

MN DNR says it's a line down the middle of the river. I have heard the MNR in Canada will say it's the channel that decides the border. I have not been able to find a map that shows the channels, and also depending on current, can't that change the location of the channels. Like the flood waters and high currents last spring-summer??

I think the DNR and the MNR will look for anyone who is fishing to close to the border and stop you. They make up the boundary just arbitrarily. Yes -- it's supposed to be down the middle of the river, but some DNR might think the middle is different than what you think is the middle. That's just what i've found to be true and I've been fishing the River for 7 years in a row now.
