Ideal skid house location on Mille Lacs

James1

Recommended Posts

I'm new to ice fishing (and fishing in general) and might be purchasing or building a skid house for mille lacs to use with my brother in law.  Does anyone have a recommendation of a part of the lake and resort they would recommend having it at?  We would mostly be fishing for Walleye and would like a place that would have a bar of place to get dinner as well.  The plan would be to have a resort deal with getting it on/off and storing it over the summer.

I have a summer place at Breakers and was somewhat thinking of the Warf as it is close and I know it, but if there is a better area for fishing or a better resort you would recommend, I would be interested in looking into it more.

Thanks,

James

James, I don’t know Mille Lacs real well but I’m pretty sure most resorts can accommodate what you’re looking for.

The Warf is in a good area.  I’ve gone out of Hunter’s Point and Appledorns in recent years.  They would be worth a call.  For walleye fishing it might be a draw on what is better.  You might want to focus as much or more on who’s accommodations suit you best, like the bar/ restaurant.  Price packages and such also.

Just shooting from the hip here cuz like I mentioned, I haven’t been on the lake a bunch.  Did you try the Mille Lacs forum?

This is the bait frig at L&M in Virginia, the other day. Also, added Highway 65 bait.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!

I agree on the choices.   I didn't mean to say that a battery auger was better or greener or whatever.  I could care less about that.   It just seems that "most" ice anglers have made a switch to a battery auger in recent years.  That's all I was saying.  I know about a dozen people who regularly ice fish and they all have battery augers now.  I bet if you conducted a survey of all ice anglers, the majority would answer that they use a battery powered auger.

Best weed eater I've ever run with great longevity is Echo, I'd check them out

Hey government,  Just give us choices. I don’t care what people use as long as as it works for you. I’m needing a new weed eater. Plan on a Stihl FS 40 easy start. I’m done with the cheaper brands. Just don’t last long enough.  Probably true with the Stormy Daniels of the world as well. Cheaper don’t last long enough 🤭

If you turn on a movie they survive the 20min ride just fine. After many controlled experiments, I've found that they survive much better if you show "Finding Nemo" instead of "Jaws."
