Cannot believe there is no info on the Brainerd forum.  Nothing on ice thickness to bites.  So fished small lakes near Cushing, Browerville, etc.  8"of ice for most part.

Northerns biting.  Have not spent time on panfish hear those on these little lakes are getting a few.

Have a great holiday.

Thanks for the report, hopefully you helped start something.

I haven't made it to the ice yet this season.   But reports are pretty slow here locally, Cushing, Lincoln area.  Some crappie action on Alex, and a few of the smaller lakes, fish trending small.

Walleyes on the big three, have provided only limited success,  people I have talked to have kinda struggled to get on a good bite just one here and there.

I know of a few that have been out but they also have not hit a good bite yet.  Surprising....

The only day I've had a chance to go so far, I spent deer hunting since the ice was still marginal.

Lots of Christmas and New Year gatherings going on since last week and on into next week.  Hoping to squeeze in a few hours soon though.

Was able to get out with my son yesterday before the wind hit.  We caught a few bluegills in 8-10 FOW.  We didn't work super hard, but it seemed the fish that showed up, bit.  Was nice to get out... I've haven't heard many, if any, glowing reports either.  A nice dose of steady weather probably wouldn't hurt.

I slipped out yesterday afternoon, knowing full well it was going to suck.  And it did...

I got one tip up set up and then made some exploration holes, leap frogging the tip up to stay within the legal distance.  Tried jigging up some pannies but only marked one that wouldn't come too close.  I can just say it was a good day to dust off the gear.

I did hear of a good walleye bite in the area last night so something was eating.

Thought you might get a chuckle outta that.

I can say somewhere south of the waypoint but they weren't my fish/not my find so I'll keep it hush.

Haven't tried Giovanni's yet.

made it out this for the evening bite today on a lake in Baxter.  Very slow though did get a few above average perch.  Lakes around here seem pretty sparse in fisherman from what I am used to in years past.  A good 12 inches on the lake i was on tonight. fished the same lake a few weeks ago at first ice and had no luck.  been a tough start. Bring your ice cleats!

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.
