well I had to get one to try. grabbed the 23 inch SUL and put a CGI#8 inline on it. Saw the reel for 22 bucks on amaz on and grabbed it. 35 now. shoulda grabbed a couple more. loved the reel that i bought last winter. hoping its a good gill set up. Heard they break sometimes so spent the extra 10 bucks for 2 years protection. Anybody use these?

Can you only buy them on line? How limber is the tip?  After fishing with another member from FM last year I learned I was buying rods that where way to stiff at the tip for pan fishing.

Might be a while here. We just put our boat in the shed yesterday. Been to URL,Winnie, as well as at our place & we have been seeing surface temps around 48 degrees. It  was 2-3 weeks ago when we were up to URL but we were over to Winnie just this week.

Interesting.  If you look at the pic you can see how I have stored it with jig in hook keeper and rod bent. Went to play with it a few days ago and memory kept it in the bent position. Not good. Taking it back in the morning and will stay with the gander ultralites with titanium spring bobber for now. maybe save up for a spendy rod... :)

Neither is a great rod for soft biting gills durring winter months. Both models seemed like they didn't handle the lighter jigs real well.  I prefer something with a little softer tip.

I have tried almost every UL Gill rod out there and always end up with broken tips on them!

My favorite bluegill & crappie rod is now the 30" HT Ice Blue Ultra Lite.

Very soft ,sensitive tip. No need for extra spring bobbers, etc.   The entire rod is very tough, ( solid glass). I have caught 12# pike on these rods and have never had one break except from neglect.

I am not a fan of their foam handle, prefer cork, but plan to put a cork handle on a couple from my older "custom rods" that broke on me.

The best part about these rods is that they are cheap!!

The new Berkeley amp ice rods seem pretty good. There new for this year not a bad price and pretty good quality.

Those are the best rods I've tried, with the 27L being my favorite for panfish. The 27ML is a nice walleye rod, too. Perfect for 1/8-5/16oz spoons and Jigging Raps.

The St. Croix Silvers with the spring bobber are also very nice for super light panfish bites and tiny jigs.

I just can't do that specific model of inline reel, though. Every trip I'd have the line wrap around the spool adjustment knob at least 3 times. By the end of the trip, my line was all crimped up and I was tempted to toss the thing down the hole. If only it had a simple line guide on the reel like the $40 Black Betty, it'd be an absolutely killer reel and a steal at $30.

My $40 Black Betty did get tossed down the hole for the same reason BeaverIslander. My super cheap little Eagle Claw works best for me.

you can sell them on the bay and craigs. why chuck them?  I really like the twist reduction for when the big gills get fussy,

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
