Set up dish

So I got it figured out. I'm piggy backing on my son's Direct system. He's getting me a receiver I'm ordering a tail gate tri pod kit. So is fairly easy to set up the dish on lake ? Do they blow over? Any tricks?

I did this at our cabin and for whatever reason had a hard time getting a signal. I spent hours trying and finally called a Directv guy in and he used his meter to get it right. Others that I know and on here have seemed to get a signal much easier than I did. Our place faces south over the lake and I mounted it right by the dock so there were no obstacles in the path either.

I don't think guys are using the tripod kit for the tailgater. I think you just put it as level as you can.

This is the tailgater, so this is what I thought you were talking about. But your on direct tv not dish. If I was you I would look into it because they have a RV monthly plan and be super easy to set up. I have Dish and it's only $7.00 a month to add it not sure how much if your not all ready with them.

We're you HD and having trouble? Once you have the elevation set it's usually pretty quick for me in my fish house but it's set on a steel mount. I think a tripod would be a horrible way to go on a lake. Lakes are flat and the up and down angle never changes, mount it solid and you just need to go back and forth till it beeps. Mine takes only a couple minutes, if that. HD is tougher by far. I would think the tailgater would have to be level on something to work but I don't know more than I learned from the 5 minute video on their HSOforum. It seems like a very expensive way to go and still not be automatic like the good ones for RV's. Mount a solid dish and you're ready to go for $30-$40 instead of $400.

I don't know if it just me but I had a horrible time pointing my dish when I had it on my house. I went one season with it and gave up on it. I did have a good inline signal finder too. That's why I'm looking at the tailgater, it's fully automatic (not to be confuse with VueCube). I've got to figure out if I can get local channels or not with it though since getting the Vikes is 90% the reason I want a dish or I will just use an antennae.

JSK, one of us is still confused. The Tailgater is NOT fully auto is it? It just looks like a dish in a fancy box. With this the surface it sits on would have to be level. and I think it seeks sideways. The fully auto ones are about $1000 I thought. FHFO-The reason for the solid mount is that the Up and Down HAS to be solid, that way you just move it sideways. Finding both up and down and sideways would be a real pain. Look at friends houses, the mount is securely fastened to the house. On my last house I could take my mount off with thumb screws on a solid 2x6 mount but I was super careful not to let the Up/Down setting never move. This is way easier than it sounds once you get the concept. Getting a tailgater level is not a big deal, but I have to believe its mandatory. Watch their video.

You're right JSK,I just watched the video, maybe I did look at the VuCube. But again, if you set the elevation securely(the up and down) it very easy to get a signal. This thing looks pretty neat though. I can't imagine the pain of doing a regular dish on a tripod like FHFO is looking at.

You can buy the satellite and receiver in a bundle for 450.00. The programing if you already have Dish programing at your home is $7.00 a month if not its 45.00. With the RV plan you can pay by the month, start and stop whenever you want.

Keep in mind this is for a HD fully automatic dish. If you wanted I think you can use a regular satellite and receiver and get by for less then 150.00. You can get a regular dish used for almost free.

Someone needs to buy this, a new dish tailgater and vip211z receiver for 250.00 in Rogers. It's on a popular site. I'm too far north and it would more then likely be gone before I got down there otherwise I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Yes it was on c list but I don't see it now either. Hopefully a HSO member seen my post and got the deal of the year. Cheapest I've seen that bundle for is 429.00 shipped.
