Anyone know of any places in the monti/becker area where a guy could wade and catch smallies with a fly rod?

snuffy's landing in Becker. Montissippi and Ellison Park in Monticello. make sure the river is down and there is not high water and fast flow rates. during late summer and early fall the river is normally at it's lowest and slowest but with all this rain we have had lately I would guess the river will be up too high and flowing too fast to wade anytime soon. be patient and the things will work out.

How is the water flowing lately? I wade monti in the winter...is it as good in the summer months?

water is moving a little slower now but is still up to high for wading. this has not been a normal year so far. I would wait until mid August before trying to wade the river. by then the water might go down to normal late summer levels.

Been getting in a little wading in the St. Cloud area, so it is doable. Water is still quite a bit higher than normal, but it's falling a little more each day. I would think you could get out there now if you wanted to bad enough, but it should be better in a couple weeks if we don't get any more major storms to the North.

you might be wading around st cloud but around monti the water is still on the high side and you wouldn't get out very far if you try.

I have a hard time believing that you couldn't find a place somewhere down there if you wanted to. It's not always about getting out far, it's just about getting out there and doing it wink

Regardless, my plans changed last minute and i wasn't able to get out to fish. Looks like i'll be back out this fall, when i KNOW what to expect.

How's the river levels around monti?

haven't checked in a few days. I was going to try and get out Wednesday after work and see how it is and see if the channel cats want to play.

I would guess it has gone up since Fri-Sat. The water raised about 6-8in since Sat. in my area.

Drove over the Hwy 25 Bridge going from Monticello to Big Lake and took a quick look at the river. It still appears to be up higher then normal for this time of year but is moving at the normal flow rate for this time of the year.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not anti-technology.  Battery powdered items will always have their place.  I'm mean you don't want your girl friend or wife in the bedroom playing for their gas powered adult toys!!  That would be a bit loud and smokey!

That’s right. My 84 year old dad loves his electric chain saw. Light weight and quiet. Besides, at his age he’s not cutting a bunch. Where as myself I want something with more power and heavier duty.  Look at how many people have switched back to gasoline cars after running one in winter if you travel a lot.   As long as my strike master works I’ll keep using gas. Maybe my next will be electric, but who knows,  you can find used gas ones pretty reasonable as others buy electric.

I think electric items have their places, I just don't think large commercial jobs are going to be able to work well with them. Can't see a logging crew out in the woods all day changing batteries!
