15" Lund with a 70hp Evinrude doing 30mph accross a lake in the dark has made me put a headlight in the front of the boat just for the dumb "Don't need a light if it's a duck boat rule"!

Like anything you do in life especially huntng: SAFETY FIRST! 2c

I have installed a KC highlighter off of a roll bar set up that I used to have. These lights were on my cattin rig but went to a LED set up so I freed these up for the duck rig plus I run a couple of handheld spots as well.

Things have changed a lot.. Went from push pole'n a ducker to well just read above..

Not many of us OLD timers went fast enough to worry about needing anything more than the flashlite...Now KC lights sweet..I can see how even if your boat didnt go fast you would want warning lights just to keep the other guys from running ya over in the dark...

Thats said Ill ride with Elwood sounds like hes got the escalade of duck boats this year..

Good reminder. I use a 3 million spotlight and shine all around the lake...the point is to alert other hunters of your position, and you of theirs. If you see someone going across the lake/slough with a light. Flash your light to let them know where you are so they can set up a safe distance away.

Who in the .... Needs to go 30 I'm the duck slough??? Never had lights on our boat never will. But we have plenty of spots light for ur eyes if ur comin at us at 30! Wth???

I would suggest waking up an extra 10 mins early and driving at a safe speed! I dont think that would kill ya..... Even if u don't run over someone going 30 u could easily swamp someones boat. Use a little common sense please!

Just like ur post said "think safety first".... I don't think flying around at 30mph at 4am I'm the pitch black with fellow hunters around on opening day is "thinking saftey first"

Sorry to ruffle your feathers BRDhunter! Where I hunt I have to go 5 miles from my boat dock to where I hide my boat and i'm not about to go 10mph to avoid hitting somebody who is ignorant enough to not have lights on there boat! Most times I barely go 20mph just for safety reasons and high waves.

When I get in the area where most likely anybody that would have a small boat to hunt, I do go at idle speed just to let you know. I've been hunting this spot since 1968 and know this area like the back of my hand and would not put anybody in harms way. This lake is over 6,000 acres, not a small duck slough! And this lake has alot of walleye fisherman with 19-20' boats out there too!2c
