Archery Hunting Photos

Lets see your archery harvest photos here. Please try to clean up the pictures of blood, keep the tongue in the mouth and don't show the gutted side of the animal. No beer or cig included in the photo's please. If one side of the animal is ripped up or has a gaping hole, try to use the other side for a nicer quality photo.

I am hoping to get a crack at this guy from last year. I have seen him twice this summer his mass has gotten much bigger, what do you think he would score from his pics. gle

Got this doe in WI Saturday morning. Had to wait all the way until 7:04am. She was 10 yards broadside & looked up right at me while I was already at full draw. She wasn't sure what I was, so I gradually leaned out a bit from behind the tree trunk to get a clean view of her vitals. Blew right through her with a double lunger & she still went about 200 yards. Max time from shot to pile up 10 seconds.

That was the side I hit her on & the entrance was high in the rib cage. She had bloated some already from her stomach full of alfalfa & I couldn't get her to roll over very well. The skeeters were so bad when we were taking pics & gutting we didn't waste any time.

This is gross, but you guys can probably appreciate the humor in it. She was bloating so hard from that alfalfa I couldn't cut her hide without getting the stomach no matter how I tried. Lets just say it basically popped in my face. That was nasty. We're 200 yards back in the woods with no water with, oh well grin & wear it. Lets just say as soon as I got to a hose I made good use of it on both myself & the deer...

I know the feeling, the same thing happened to me last year.

Next time when gutting one like that, gut them with their back end as much up hill as you can. This will let the guts hang as much forward in the cavity as they can. You should be able to at least get started w/out hitting the stomach. Has worked for me many times. GOOD LUCK

Tried that, it just didn't matter. You'd swear someone was adding air with a compressor the whole time I was opening her up. Usually do that anyway, it's so much easier not having to hold everything back while splitting the pelvis.

I posted this in the Deer forum too.

Nothing fancy, but it was a good opening day public-land hunt in Wisconsin for me. Too bad I had the camera in the wrong setting for every single photo and they all came out a little blurry.

Photos were of the buck at 55 yards eating grass and drinking in the river for a good ten minutes. I grunted three times since he was already meandering away and I had nothing to lose, he came back across to see who I was and I took him at 10 yards. The drag out was horrible, 80F, mosquitoes everywhere, and I was by myself a long way from the car.

Here are pics of the opening morning buck I was able to take. I have had trail pics for about a month but the last week and half I have not seen him but he showed up and I was in the right place at the right time. He ended up scoring unofficial of course 143 gross and around 140 net. He is my biggest bowkill to date. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?0283931809.jpg http://www.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?c524de30ba.jpg

If you want me to post your pics you can send them to huntnfishmn at yahoo. Otherwise, if you go to the photosharing forum there is a post that will explain the process of posting pictures.

Congrats on the buck. It was slow for me this evening. Only squirrels and chipmunks, but it was nice to get out again.

Bigbucks, I didn't bother to take any after photos. I was more concerned with getting him processed asap due to the heat.

Donbo, my dad is being lazy about hunting so far. He is watching some moving through the back yard this year. Elk hunting this coming weekend, he isn't ready...

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
