Deck Boat for fishing

3 posts in this topic

My parents and I bought a cabin on Ottertail last year and are now looking at buying a boat. We are going to look at a 1997 Crestliner Rampage (deck boat). My dad and I will use it mostly for fishing but my mom and wife want it for cruising/general use. I am wondering if the deck boat is going to be a servicable boat to use for fishing. We are not hardcore fishermen by any means but will use it quite a bit for fishing. Any input is greatly appreciated!

If you could put a trolling motor on the front you should be alright and a depth finder/Gps! I have seen people do it before!

Yep, hhguide said it. Just make sure you get the highest powered trolling motor & a few large drift socks. Deck boats get blown around pretty good, so you want to have the tools to keep the boat control.

I crossed over to the dark side of smallies about 15 years ago. Mostly chase pannies in winter but used to chase eyes a few times on the hard water each season.   I could post a ton of pics if you need more proof.

Sorry to make you hold up a bottom feeder, but we needed to see it!

I was up over the weekend and my shoreline was getting pretty sketchy.  Had a pocket of open water down the shore about a 100 yards. Where I could see the bottom in two to three feet of water.  Walked out about a hundred yards and popped four holes Saturday afternoon. There was 17- 18.5"s of ice in those four holes. Looking at the forecast I can't see the ice sticking around too much longer.  The holes I popped had 5-6" of pretty mushy cloudy stuff on top and about 12"s of pretty solid stuff underneath it.
