Transom strength

Question

lawman

I own a 17'11' 2001 model Alumacraft console boat. I have a 115HP suzuki 4-stroke engine. I am thinking of adding a 9.0hp kicker to my rig but wonder if the transom is meant to hold the additional weight. When I bought the boat the dealer told me the boat was only rated for the 115 Suzuki, no more. His opinion was based on weight. Any opinions on whether or not I should do this?

Never heard of a boat manufacturer recommending a motor based on weight. The Suzuki 115 is the lightest 115 on the market last time I checked but that shouldn't have anything to do with how you rig your boat. I can't see how adding a kicker would be a problem. I run the same 115 and do not have any use for a kicker, are you looking to save a little gas or why the addition?

Just trying to save some fuel. Can't say that i am unhappy with how the 115 trolls down. I really like to crawl if I can. How has yours handled a lot of trolling?

Thanks all. FYI I'm located on Frazer Bay on Vermilion. Give a shout out if/when you may be on the water up there. I may give the Pike River Flowage a try tomorrow or Saturday. I'll provide a report if I go. Thanks again.

@Rick G, it's about the questionable link they left. Either something hard is going to popup. Or someone may end up with a virus. Or both!

Thanks Rick G that will be this springs project one thin spray on the top and bottom should be just right. Seems they all have this issue you’d think they’d do somthing about it.

I've got a 9 ah battery ordered in addition to my 5 ah batteries.   I'm thinking I should be in better shape.  But with the ice getting pretty thick I'll be switching to my gas auger soon.

Thanks for the replies I will be getting one today. Poseidon one thing to check is your blade sharpness Last year I thought my drill was getting weak I put new blades on and away I went.  With this open winter they tend to dull faster just an idea. I'm getting about 15 -18 holes per battery in 20 inches of ice also with same set up.
