Ice-Out Count Down - < 100 Days To Go

4 posts in this topic

If I recall correctly, in 2007 the ice went out the last week of April. For those of us that don't do much ice fishing, it means that we have a limited number of days left of day dreaming and scheming about the upcoming softwater season.

So what are you going to be planning on over the remaining days?

Here is my short list:

Spend more time fishing and catching

Teach my kids about the excitement of catching a fish

Hit fewer rocks that I did the last few summers

Work to get some of the rocks and reefs on Pelican marked with buoys

Praying that the ice stays longer than usual.

I'm OK with ice-out taking a little longer as long as it's from lots of snow fall. Let's get the lake levels up!

1. We are getting a new fishing boat. I'm in the process of information gathering on boat models.

I'll know more after the boat show on what we are leaning towards.

2. Preparing for the City auto walleye classic. LOL

3. Training regimen to successfully fish Musk

4. Increase equipment inventory for musky fish

5. Repeat Steps 2-4 and then go wax the new boat

Yah!  The foldable ones you can.    Or, if you don't get a roof carrier you could just leave one hanging out an open window or the hatch like you're making a lumber run.

They are BITING - bugs that is - har!   Bass have been very good some days and slooooow on others. Bugs have been awful last few trips. But the dragonflies have hatched out so they will be putting the gobble on the black flies and mosquitoes so things should improve.   Walleyes have finally showed up on the bank. Bass have been there awhile now. Went to Pelican one day and got some largemouths. The special regs there have really helped the bass fishing. Crappie are in spawning colors at several different lakes I have sampled this last week. Everything pretty much shallow but did get some walleyes in 15 FOW,

Good opener last year!  Anywhere near as good this year?

Nobody needs that kind of grief.  I hope he's able to overcome that in short order.

Yes. Casey did sell his new boat and retire from guiding, at least for a while. He has been having serious shoulder and neck problems that have interfered with his guiding abilities. Hope that he gets this problem remedied soon and is able to return to guiding! Cliff
