Stick by the resort, I have been fishing in 21 to 24 ft of water. I have been drilling then putting down the camera until I find them. Try around Gooseberry by the sharp dropoffs. Not as much numbers but better quality. Good Luck!

Went out today from 1 to 630 and didn't catch much. Caught one northern that was around a pound and a 9in walleye. Got to watch perch all day on the camera though. We were straight out from the beach in 18ft of water. Did have 3 walleyes come thru and not look intrested though plus a couple more northerns

The first and last hour are the best. Like some of the other people said don't be afraid to go deep. I was up on Big Trout last weekend and pulled a 3 pound eye out of 75 fow.

Hey guys, heading up to the cabin this weekend...may be my last time to get out on Pelican this winter. I usually fish right out from my cabin there is a nice drop off about 150 yards out and typically fish in 19-23 FOW, I catch a few walleyes here and there..just wondering if anyone can give some advice on the depths the eyes are at this time of year. Thanks!

Truck is loaded up and I am itching to hit the road.

Was there any new snow fall up there this week?

Anyone else going to be out and about on Pelican?

I will be out over the weekend, I have had enough wally fishing, i am going to try for a tulipee (never got one on pelican) and some crappies, probably on the west side.

Hope everyone has good fishing, weather is looking nice.

Man o man, what a weekend. Was on the lake from 3 to 8 on Friday, from 7 to 12 and 2 to 8 on saturday, and 7 to 12 on sunday.

Caught a real mixed bag of fish including walleyes, crappies, perch and sunfish.

Highlights:

1 Caught a 9 3/4" bluegill friday night...this thing was a stud

Pics007.jpg

2 Mrs. Tisosys11 caught a 13 1/2" crappie Friday night! She was absolutely thrilled to see this fish and boy does she let me hear it when shes got the biggest fish in the outing.

Pics011.jpg

3 Had numerous flags up on the tip ups but never landed any fish after flag went up. Caught a couple medium size perch that didn't trip the flag. One time had a flag go up...got to the tip up and no fish on...well i rebaited the hook and dropped it down...while setting the line I felt a big pull and release...sure enough i bring the minnow back up but it was nearly ripped in two. No fish though! darn...

4. Could not find the 'eyes until sunday morning. But sunday around 9 am I got on top of them and just had a blast with the 12-14" walleyes. Caught around 15-20 and all were quickly released. I was in 22 FOW and was fishing about 2 feet from the bottom. As soon as my minnow/yellow hook got to the bottom I would jig once and see a line come off the bottom. shortly the bobber would go down and one of these would be on...

5 Had a light colored, bullhead looking fish swim up the ice hole...not sure what this was exactly...but it was the first time its happened.

They were hot for about an hour. A great way to end the walleye season. What a great weekend!!!

Hopefully I can be back up for opener in search of more!

I am heading up with about 45 people on Thursday for a work outing. I apologize to anyone that our group may annoy right now. I am in charge of ice fishing. I know that walleye and pike are closed, but I am wondering if anyone has any advice/spots right around Breezy for crappies, blue gills, and perch this time of the year? I have a bunch of people that have never iced fished before and I just want to give them an honest shot at catching something. I have some ideas, but I wanted to get some up to date info.

I also wanted to verify a few regs with you guys. I heard that the '07 fishing license were extended to be good through April. Is that true? I also wanted to double check that portable ice shelters are still alowed on the lake, I know perms had to be removed?

Thanks for all the help.

you can be in your fish house past midnight as long as you are using it at that time......this weekend caught 50-60 crappies on saturday form just before dark to 9:30pm.. they were still biting when we left....I also caught 3 walleyes about 9-11 inches and a whitefish that ran about 3-3.5 lbs (guessing)that was fun!!!

So I was up last Thursday and started fishing the west side in about 13 FOW had just a ton of perch. I even caught one that was 11" I had a great time pulling some medium size perch in, but missed a bigger fish of some sort, poor hook set.

What amount of snow has fallen up on the lake in the last two weeks since walleye closed...can I still get around with a 4-wheeler???

Thanks,

yes...just have to watch for deeper snow drifts but last weekend we were in the truck....the snow is blown/iced over and are hard so with a 4-wheeler I would bet that you might even be able to drive over the harder snow drifts!!...there are tracks to follow also to get to certain areas....where you going to...north end or south?

No not yet. I was fishing between moose and Gooseberry and was seeing a lot of fish on the vex. There was not too much snow to drive as of a week and a half ago.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
