Snow cover/ fishing report

4 posts in this topic

Hi all, I am looking at heading up to Winnie fishing wednesday 1-2 and thursday 1-3. Will be fishing the south side out of either Denny's or Nodak. Will lake travel be possible with a 4-wheeler? I will probably be pulling a trailier with the wheeler if I do bring it. Any current information on snow cover or a south side fishing report wil be helpful. Thanks!

Hey winnie, I drove all over the lake with a 4 wheeler, pulling a fish trap yesterday. Snow cover everywhere was about 6 - 12 inches, with drifting here and there. Ice was 11 - 14 inches thick. I had no problems. Good Luck!

Most of our fish came on minnows under bobbers. I spooked countless fish with even subtle jigging.

I never made it out Monday was too tired from fishing Friday - sunday didn't feel like getting up early

Hey, Here a quick update on actual ice thickness or snow cover on trout. 14 inchs of ice pressure ridge out there. if you are  on a snowmobile if traveling fast on it watch for it. Truck or car i do not recommend on trout with pressure ridge. And yes i have been on the whitefish chain this year in truck. just not on trout. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone. And Borch that is good to know too.  I try to spend 2-3 hours looking on cedar each trip, but It's a lot of water to break down , and having only been out hardwater cattin 6 times so far I still have a lot to learn.  Generally I spend a lot of my 3 hours losing confidence and then wind up at the meth hole to catch a few .  Putting in the work is what makes it so fun once it all comes together though!
