smelt

Has anyone fished for northerns with smelt? I have a friend who swears by it, but I have never tried it. Is their any bait shops around Waterville that stock them?

I have used them up north on a few lake that contain bigger pike. They out fished suckers 3to1 and the fish we caught on them ran much bigger then the ones we caught on suckers. The key is to use a quick strike rig and just let them drop down with no weight best if you use a wind tip-up for extra jigging action.

I used to use them all the time.

A good tip - use food coloring. Yellows and orange are really interesting and productive at times...

Has anyone tried out the polar bird hub houses? The floor looks like a neat concept I wonder how well it works. Looking for a small 2 man hub so I don't have to drag my huge heavy 6 man thermal hub when I go alone.

I don't care if dnr checks me multiple times a day or I have to prove that I am not doing anything wrong. That is how they catch the guys who are doing stuff wrong. I am always legal so What do I care I have been checked what like 5-6 times in my life so far even if every time they were a bad_boy ( they were not ) who cares I have to deal with them 10-15 mins out of my day? Think about how many pricks they have to deal with every day.
