Minnetonka Tonka Report 12/23/07

1 post in this topic

Went on Tonka between Arcola bridge and Big Island. Caught 4-walleyes in 17-22Ft of water using shiners and fatheads. Nice sizers between 15" and 17". Bite started at about 3:30PM and I got off the ice at about 6PM. the bite started with a bunch of small pesky perch. Once the perch stopped biting the walleyes started. Couldn't stand it any longer...wind was brital today and I don't have a house...Brrrr. Ice is about 10"-12" inches where I drilled holde but I am sure I walked over ice that was thinner than that.

Most of our fish came on minnows under bobbers. I spooked countless fish with even subtle jigging.

Hey, Here a quick update on actual ice thickness or snow cover on trout. 14 inchs of ice pressure ridge out there. if you are  on a snowmobile if traveling fast on it watch for it. Truck or car i do not recommend on trout with pressure ridge. And yes i have been on the whitefish chain this year in truck. just not on trout. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info everyone. And Borch that is good to know too.  I try to spend 2-3 hours looking on cedar each trip, but It's a lot of water to break down , and having only been out hardwater cattin 6 times so far I still have a lot to learn.  Generally I spend a lot of my 3 hours losing confidence and then wind up at the meth hole to catch a few .  Putting in the work is what makes it so fun once it all comes together though!
