Grand Lake

6 posts in this topic

What are the ice conditions on grand? I drove by on saturday after a slow day at Pearl and there were a bunch of portables out about 70 yards from the access. No one out very far just wondered what the ice was like?

Ice is like every lake locally now it varies with the snow pack and there is alot slush. As far as the houses you saw most likely most of them are spear houses. A good area to look for panfish and Northern action is to the E of the access. There is a nice weedline and cabbage hump that has good fishing and it's not that far of a walk.

So the ice around there is probably 5-6 inches with 3 inche of snow and slush on top?

I crossed over to the dark side of smallies about 15 years ago. Mostly chase pannies in winter but used to chase eyes a few times on the hard water each season.   I could post a ton of pics if you need more proof.

Sorry to make you hold up a bottom feeder, but we needed to see it!

I was up over the weekend and my shoreline was getting pretty sketchy.  Had a pocket of open water down the shore about a 100 yards. Where I could see the bottom in two to three feet of water.  Walked out about a hundred yards and popped four holes Saturday afternoon. There was 17- 18.5"s of ice in those four holes. Looking at the forecast I can't see the ice sticking around too much longer.  The holes I popped had 5-6" of pretty mushy cloudy stuff on top and about 12"s of pretty solid stuff underneath it.
