4 posts in this topic

Whats the ice like if anyone knows. Looking to head out there Friday if its good. What end does a guy start at the Ponderosa or Fishermans Inn. I hate learning new lakes. Any help would be great!

tipup,

The Zumbro is a scary one to learn via ice. Knowing the current flows, and channels are nice as with that knowledge you also know where the thin ice may be.

I've only heard 2nd hand that people have ventured out of Grandpa Eds, spudding every step. I don' think they made it far, but they did fish according to my source.

The middle of the lake seems to be the place everybody wants to get to, but it's also the toughest as there is no easy way to get there, and it's a long walk from whichever angle you come from.

I have not ventured out there yet, but I've heard the ice is looking pretty good. There is some 4-wheeler travel out there and I think some of the smaller perm shacks are in their traditional areas.

Friday, Sat, and Sunday will be my maiden voyages out there.

Fall fishing can be excellent but the weather can be iffy. Fortune bay casino has a nice marina. It has a bait shop, fillet house, freezer for you to keep your fish, beer, and gas. The rooms are nice and a decent price. Plus if you sign up for their card and gamble a little they will sent you coupons which commonly include a couple of free week night room rentals. It's not like the cabin feel on the lake but they have a nice pool, hot tub, sauna, and exercise room. They have a little arcade for the kids too. You can get food 24/7 and the bar is always open and has the sports games on. I know it's not for everyone but we have 2 little ones so the pool and arcade are great when they lose their patience with the boat.

Was out yesterday 9am till 2pm. Fished by dam, airplane, pontoon, dock. Fish were terribly negative. Three guys, three gills, one rock bass and dink perch. We were able to drive our pickup truck every where.
