Check the resort locator on this site....you can't go wrong with any of those properties.

We stay at the FM Inn. Oops I mean Paddle Inn. Cheap and ok rooms. Nothing fancy just a clean warm room. If your looking at something more up scale try the Grand Ely Lodge.

I would recommend the Grand Ely Lodge especially if you have kids because they have a swimming pool and the rooms are very nice. You can take off on the snowmobile trail right from your door plus you are right on Shagawa Lake. They also have a nice restaraunt right there!

Hope this helps,

Justin

I've stayed at both the Grand Ely Lodge and Paddle Inn. The Lodge is great with everything you need right there, including Ice Fishing if you want to walk/drive(?) out or rent a shack. You'll pay about 40% more for a room there vs anywhere else, but if that doesn't matter, thats where I would go.

The Paddle Inn is clean, comfortable and will work well if you just need a place to crash & shower while spending most of the day elsewhere. For us it has worked well when up visiting the family for the Holidays.

This year we are going to give the Adventure Inn a whirl over Christmas. Priced between the Paddle and the Lodge, (closer to the Paddle) we'll see how it is.

Haven't been home for quite a few Christmas' now. Really looking forward to it. Hopefully the eyes are biting on down on Sandy Point or Stinky Ditch.

Grand Ely Lodge is tops in my book for all of the reasons above.

Those are quantom blades in that picture and they work great for reopening holes and I never had a problem with it being bad for the blades in fact that ring around the bit on the bottom is to help guide the blade when going through a preexisting hole

Mine looks like that.  And it does reopen holes, and is sharp.  But, had read in past it was not good for the blade.  A friend indeed has attached a 10" Strikemaster, dual blade to his Eskimo so it does work.  His impressively cuts holes quickly, at angles, etc.  He spears so he does 5 holes side by side , 3 holes deep, then augers side ways to remove in between.  Works well.  Complete hole done, less scooping, in under 10 minutes.   Thanks for all the advice.  Could use something larger than 8" anyway, so may go to 10.  Also will redo back part by toy hauler door, under bunks to a 20" x 5' hole, covered and hinged of course.  May spear, but even if not I love watching the fish and various movements of bait, etc.   Again, thanks for being generous. Wahoo
