Check the resort locator on this site....you can't go wrong with any of those properties.

We stay at the FM Inn. Oops I mean Paddle Inn. Cheap and ok rooms. Nothing fancy just a clean warm room. If your looking at something more up scale try the Grand Ely Lodge.

I would recommend the Grand Ely Lodge especially if you have kids because they have a swimming pool and the rooms are very nice. You can take off on the snowmobile trail right from your door plus you are right on Shagawa Lake. They also have a nice restaraunt right there!

Hope this helps,

Justin

I've stayed at both the Grand Ely Lodge and Paddle Inn. The Lodge is great with everything you need right there, including Ice Fishing if you want to walk/drive(?) out or rent a shack. You'll pay about 40% more for a room there vs anywhere else, but if that doesn't matter, thats where I would go.

The Paddle Inn is clean, comfortable and will work well if you just need a place to crash & shower while spending most of the day elsewhere. For us it has worked well when up visiting the family for the Holidays.

This year we are going to give the Adventure Inn a whirl over Christmas. Priced between the Paddle and the Lodge, (closer to the Paddle) we'll see how it is.

Haven't been home for quite a few Christmas' now. Really looking forward to it. Hopefully the eyes are biting on down on Sandy Point or Stinky Ditch.

Grand Ely Lodge is tops in my book for all of the reasons above.

They guy that taught me to diver hunt had all wood decoys. They ride totally different than the plastic decoy. In low light hard to tell from real birds. That was in 1976. I think he put out about 50 bills and goldeneye dekes

I think it might be time for calling season. I've got the itch. Been working the hand calls the last few days. The neighborhood dogs and cats fall for em almost every time. New batteries in the foxpro and the critter just in case. Got plenty of #3 buckshot for the 20ga and the rifle is ready to bark(as soon as muzzle deer is closed).   please stop and share your seasons ups and downs here. Otherwise I will try not to bore you all too bad with my pour calling and shooting.    Good of luck and happy calling.

Yep, glad they took the snow out of the forecast for next week except for some flurries on Sunday but that shouldn't hurt anything. They lowered the temps a little more also. If the forecast holds and the wind stays down I think the lake could lock up by the 9th or 10th. Walked down to the shore this morning expecting to see some ice along the shore but nope. Looked like there was a little skim out in the bulrushes but that was it.

then I will need to buy the bigger dewalt batteries. they look spendy.  I have 7 ryobi batteries now. 2 are the 4 amp.    600 pounds should be plenty  from what all are saying. I can take the 2 , 4 amps back and grab the dewalt. hmmmmmm, decisions desicions. lol
