Spearing lakes around Fish Trap Lake

2 posts in this topic

Was wondering on any info on some lakes that you can acually spear in this area. I know that there are lake that you can't spear on but what are the ones you can. We are coming up on the 14th and 2 guys are spearing. Also what lakes are good for the first ice and what are the species of choice. Any info would be greatly apprechiated and if anyone needs info for St. Cloud south I would be glad to give out what I know. Thanks Slim

I believe that you can spear on any lake that does not have muskies in it. Also i know that there is a list of lakes that prohibit spearing in the rules. like trout lakes. i would just check out the rules.

I crossed over to the dark side of smallies about 15 years ago. Mostly chase pannies in winter but used to chase eyes a few times on the hard water each season.   I could post a ton of pics if you need more proof.

Sorry to make you hold up a bottom feeder, but we needed to see it!

I was up over the weekend and my shoreline was getting pretty sketchy.  Had a pocket of open water down the shore about a 100 yards. Where I could see the bottom in two to three feet of water.  Walked out about a hundred yards and popped four holes Saturday afternoon. There was 17- 18.5"s of ice in those four holes. Looking at the forecast I can't see the ice sticking around too much longer.  The holes I popped had 5-6" of pretty mushy cloudy stuff on top and about 12"s of pretty solid stuff underneath it.
