What is the typical size????

3 posts in this topic

I've got an eskimo lodge ice shelter that I have been using for ice fishing for the last two years, The Canvas is dark green and the windows have strips of canvas that velcro over them. So it seems to keep fairly dark in the hut. My question is how large of a hole should a guy typically use for ice fishing. I'm thinking that I could use this eskimo lodge for both my spear house and Ice fishing house. But not sure if the hole flip ups on the floor would be large enough for a spearing hole.I think it 13.5 in wide by 30 in long, any opinions on the topic?

I suppose my average hole is 24-30" x 3-4'.

13 1/2" maybe a little on the small side...

Good Luck!

Ken

When i cut my hole, i cut it 4 down and 5 across with my auger. So i have a monster hole in my mankato. This allows me to be able to cover alot more water, and to be able to throw the spear at a better angle. All and all, there is nothing better then closing the door and knowing you have open water all around you.

Got more picks? Not sure with just this one. First glance, looks like an emerald shiner. Welcome to FM!

I have an Eskimo and love it. I fish a lot and punch a lot of holes most outtings. I had to rebuild the carb this year, but I've had the auger for 4 years or so... Always starts no matter how cold...I've drilled with jiffy and can't stand them... The blades on the Eskimos last a long time and are cheap when you have to replace them... I drilled with a SM last year and really liked it, but they are so pricey. I got my z51 shark dirt cheap ($220 shipped to my door) from Glens Army Navy in Rapids. I'd go Eskimo or Strikemaster if I was you.
