Do yellow labs keep the color of their noses?

Sorry i am used to huskys, their nose always turns a pinkish or a pink streak.. I did look a lot up about yellow labs for 2 years before i got Hunter and i read somewhere about pink noses are lacking pigmentation, so i been hoping his stays black lol

His looks like his nose is going to stay black. If people are looking for a yellow to be a show dog, the black nose is one of the things they will look for.

Lakers, Tom? Were you fishing lakers last year? I could've sworn that was a smelt you caught. Biggest darn smelt ever reported in Burntside, too, Must've been all of 9 inches.

Well, Kalli, it's a rare smelt on Burntside that gets to 9 inches these days. Most are from 3 to 5 because they're stunted. That makes Tom's 9-incher a bona fide Burntside trophy far less common than a 15-lb laker.

It's alright. This is just how we start working up enthusiasm for the fabled Bash. Kinda like trash talk before Vikings/Packers games. Uh, Tom, are you a Vikings fan, by chance?

I was talking to the misses just this week whether she wants to go up and catch more lakers. I think the one she caught last year on the first day got her intrigued.

The second day got her cold.

Steve ole boy, I use to be a Queen fan but the last few years its hard to even listen to them. As far as the lakers go, I'm sure my smallest laker would have maybe had a small treat at best eating yours and thats if you even get that lucky and snag one. Northlander showed me where to catch the big Girls but I didnt want to show you up my first year.

Sorry but this year I'm going for the jugler.

Lisa, you sure can get by with standard medium walleye tackle and walleye-sized lures on Burntside for lakers.

Meanwhile, look here. And using the search feature for the many other threads on winter inland laker fishing over the last few years will gain you more knowledge yet, since we've been discussing this at some length for the past four or five winters or so. Lots of great info scattered around.

And, of course, there'll be more to come as the Bash approaches.

I just moved back to Ely, so i am lacking winter fishing things.. I spent the last 4 years in phz az at mayo clinic there, so i don't even have a winter coat yet...lol

But next year..i will be fishing and catching all the big lakers.. I have 10 years on that lake, and now i need to re learn that lake.. Think i might have time over the summer.

But i will be there cheering you all on, and teasing you on the small catches lol...

I am getting really pumped to meet all you FM'ers. I met a couple last spring at the Swap in Saginaw but I was only there for a few minutes. Now I just have to get a couple of things at Gander. I have already started buying some ice jigs. I bought something I haven't seen before called a Tiger Eye-The Original Glowing Glass Jig-they should work great but probably not on Burntside.

Lisa, one thing about Burntside ice lakers is that sometimes they really prefer small lures. That's why walleye-sized lures can work very well there, and some folks on this board have done very well at Bside Bashes using small jigs tipped with waxies and light line. On days when the bite seems shut down, small can be the best way to go. Lakers are, after all, trout (well, char).

So what you're really saying is Lisa, don't break the bank getting all kinds of new lures-just look in your tackle box!

Thanks, Lisa. Frank's the real longtime veteran at this game, having done it for decades, and he's been generous sharing his knowledge with FMers (including me). I'll be in my sixth winter icing lakers this time around, almost all of it on Burntside and hitting it hard every year (often with chunkytrout, who also sports much laker knowledge), winter and summer. Sure is a blast.

Kallista, I cant believe that you started this post already. I think last year it didn't get rolling until after deer hunting. Well your forgiven what else can a person do with all this rain but dream of frozen lakes and lake trout. I sure hope I can make it this year. Last year I was all primed for it and then work got in the way.

We should get the governor up here. After icing lakers, I have no doubt he'd simply declare the last Saturday in January a state holiday.
