Mille Lacs Muskies

6 posts in this topic

Going to the pond on Sunday. Just wondering if the skis are active or not. Not looking for locations just if they are sluggish, hot, or somewhere inbetween. Thanks in advance.

JJJ,

The activity level of the fish can change daily. There were lots of fish caught last weekend , including some monsters. Ya can't catch 'em from the couch, so keep chucking!Looks like Saturday could be golden with another front coming Sunday, but of course the weather can change too. Good luck and be safe. Steve

Like Steve said, fish attitude is changing from day to day. There's been a pretty good weed bite going right now. Lots of perch moving into the weedy bays (you'll see lots of people fishing them), and the muskies are nearby chasing perch. If you're lucky enough to hit a big concentration of them, you can have a multiple fish day in short order. The muskies are also showing up en-mass at most rock piles. Timing is everything. Try some bigger baits. Bull Dawgs are getting lots of attention right now, but you also gotta remember, everyone is throwing them too. Something big but different just might be the ticket. Good luck.

I have the Milwaukee m18 fuel hammer drill, 5ah batteries, never worried about keeping them warm last year and never had a problem.

Thanks for the ice report, Sculpin.  With the weather forecasted for the upcoming week, I'm sure I'll be up there next weekend, hopefully walking out from the northwest side.   van, yeah, I hear you.  I've been up to LOW a few times, and it is very fun to know there's the chance of catching a monster....but driving all that way for a bucket full of 12'' fish?  Not my cup of tea. I'll save the money and buy three dozen T-bones to make it through the winter. I'm sure people who know the lake better than I do have done better on the weekends I'm up there, but the reports at the resort we used were pretty similar.    I like the northwest side on ML because it's where we've been for almost 20 years, but it also has close access to sand, rocks, whatever weeds remain, mud flats, transitions, etc. The only thing we don't have up there is extensive gravel.

I'm curious to see how this works out. Do you plan to keep the battery warm while not is use on the water?
