Fall Turnover Here Already?

2 posts in this topic

I am coming to the Park Rapids area this weekend for some walleye fishing and am wondering if I am going to run into Fall Turnover. Given the high winds (20-30MPH) and cold temperatures (30's)that is forecasted for this week (Tuesday/Wednesday)is this going to be "it" or does it take more that 2-days of cold/windy weather to turn the lakes over?

Also, any tips on what lakes to hit for eyes this weekend during this cold front would be greatly appreciated.

You might run into it on smaller lakes, but I doubt it. Water temps near detroit lakes on sunday were still 67-69 degrees.

I crossed over to the dark side of smallies about 15 years ago. Mostly chase pannies in winter but used to chase eyes a few times on the hard water each season.   I could post a ton of pics if you need more proof.

Sorry to make you hold up a bottom feeder, but we needed to see it!

I was up over the weekend and my shoreline was getting pretty sketchy.  Had a pocket of open water down the shore about a 100 yards. Where I could see the bottom in two to three feet of water.  Walked out about a hundred yards and popped four holes Saturday afternoon. There was 17- 18.5"s of ice in those four holes. Looking at the forecast I can't see the ice sticking around too much longer.  The holes I popped had 5-6" of pretty mushy cloudy stuff on top and about 12"s of pretty solid stuff underneath it.
