Big C update

3 posts in this topic

Hit the Big C last night. Two boats and four guys tag-teamed the lake. We hit about 12 of our favorite spots and caught a lot of fish, but they were not the kind we were looking for.

total -- 11 northern, 1 sunnie, 25 rock bass i largmouth and 6 smallies.

We did get two eyes -- one was about 11 inches and the other was a VERY nice 24-incher. What a beauty. it was caught in the other boat and the guy KEPT it. That made me very upset. I even offered to pay him to release it.

No luck.

Anyone else out this weekend?

I fished Big C on Saturday moring before the wind blew me off, so I switched to Pelican and got some small eyes and itsy bitsy tiny weenie baby small mouth. I split when the sailboats around and the jetskis started in.

Pelican has been a pain lately -- a good amount but too small to keep.

I crossed over to the dark side of smallies about 15 years ago. Mostly chase pannies in winter but used to chase eyes a few times on the hard water each season.   I could post a ton of pics if you need more proof.

Sorry to make you hold up a bottom feeder, but we needed to see it!

I was up over the weekend and my shoreline was getting pretty sketchy.  Had a pocket of open water down the shore about a 100 yards. Where I could see the bottom in two to three feet of water.  Walked out about a hundred yards and popped four holes Saturday afternoon. There was 17- 18.5"s of ice in those four holes. Looking at the forecast I can't see the ice sticking around too much longer.  The holes I popped had 5-6" of pretty mushy cloudy stuff on top and about 12"s of pretty solid stuff underneath it.
