Using shotgun butt "shims"

4 posts in this topic

I'm puzzled by the talk I heard about shotgun "shim kits" that presumably allow you to change what I've called "drop" all my life, and also adjust "cast-off" or "cast-on" to a shotgun butt. I'm puzzled at how they would work, without making the gun double-ugly i.e. with stuff sticking out all over from the butt plate. What am I missing? How do they work? Can you actually change the fit of a shotgun with one of these kits?? Doing serious changes to pitch, drop, cast etc. used to be a time consuming challenge. So, what sthe deal?

Never to old to learn something new! confused.gif

Most shims go between the stock and the reciever instead of off the butt plate. A shim can make a worlds difference in how your gun pulls up.

Diddo what rost said. My Benelli M1 has the adjustable shim kit that fits between the stock and reciever and a little bit goes a long ways. Picture how you want to be looking down the barrel when you shoot, then shoulder the gun with your eyes closed. Open your eyes, and if the gun isn't where you want it, odds are it's not a proper fit. Then the trial and error starts.

I have a 2015 21' Ice Castle RV that has two house batteries. I added the second to the house. It will run the furnace fan all night but it is running a lot slower by morning. There is a noticeable increase in fan speed when I start the generator in the morning. I am thinking of adding a third battery to the house to make up the difference.

Any area ice reports? I'm hearing that most of the smaller bodies of water in the area have now frozen over. Should make it out sometime this weekend to try my luck . Good luck, and please stay safe

Buddy was checking a few lakes yesterday and found 4.5" on a small lake on "White" ice and when he went to the "Clear" ice it was 2.5-3.5"  He's hoping around today to see what he can find but he's not expecting too much.  Few shallow protected lakes were covered so it'll only be time.

I know a lot can change, but what are the odds with this upcoming weather that we will be making our scheduled ice fishing trip that would start on Wed (14th) using 4 mile bay to get out to the lake?
