Grand Rapids Winnie fishing report

Cool evenings and 70s during the day perfect weather in the northland. The fish on winnie have been steady the fish seem to be in the weeds for the most part. 7-10 ft with a jig and minnow seem to be the best. There are also perch and northern in the weeds. Some people have also been catching fish on the big bars on the edges in 17-19 ft with a crawler and a lindy rig. Sand and Bowstring have also been producing fish on the weed lines and the panfish on both lakes have been starting to really turn on in the deeper water. Coming up this month is the couples contest on winnie at williams narrows resort, we also have a fall contest out of high Banks (check there website for details) And mnfishingpros have been fishing out of Tamarack lodge on winnie for the whole week, check out these resorts and contests at area resorts and check out the excellent fishing this time of the year.

Good luck fishing

The thumb nail method is tough for those that chew em!   I don't but know people who do.   I haven't used an official split ring pliers but a couple precision sizes have worked well.  This is a cheap set I like to have around.

I use forage minnows and other types of jigging spoons also. Usually tipped with minnow head or waxies.

Out of curiosity what do you all think this cost them?  Not including the truck damage.

i'm thinking of heading up and trying for some tulibees for the smoker- anyone been catching them?      how are the roads out to the flats?  i was thinking of coming on from the east side of the lake- maybe Hunters.

Decided to try trout fishing through the ice for the first time and it was awesome. We were setup in 80ft of water and were catching them 20 ft down jigging a silver kastmaster spoon. It was pretty cool to see how the fish acted with the underwater camera. They were like sharks when they came in. We had probably 30 or more trout come in and check out the bait but only few takers.  Was a lot of fun. Definitly going to explore more trout lakes. Doesn't get much better then fishing on lakes with no houses on them!    Here is a video of the trip with underwater video of the strikes:  https://youtu.be/6JuJhq-50X4
