I am getting married in two days. My friends tell me that she will lock me in a cage so I guess I won't get to talk to you guys as much. HAHA Actually I am excited! We are getting married on Friday at 5:00. Looks like we will have nice weather. Wish me luck!

Later,

Nate

PS...any words of advice for the wedding/reception?

Enjoy the mariage even if the wedding is boring and tiring.

make sure she can go shopping so you can go fishing. If she can shop at a sporting goods store the better.

You are registered at Cabelas arent you?

I am sure you found the right girl Nate. I got married in April and it is great. The biggest problem I have is trying to find time to fish with the jsut the guys. The wife is always bugging me to take her. What a problem, huh?

Good luck and enjoy it all.

Thanks everyone! No I didn't register at Cabela's...I wish I had though. Oh well. I registered for a bunch of tools at Sears so that is the coolest stuff we will get I am sure.

That is for sure! Duck hunting could be interesting...I usually go almost every weekend. I will try to make it up to her during the off season.

Good luck Nate. Marriage is a good thing. Just spend time with her or let her go out and do something on her own. Time apart isn't a bad thing as long as you have time together.

If she has put up with your hunting and fishing this long, she still should after the left handed ring goes on.

As far as the night, it will go faster than you think, take it all in and enjoy the night. You can try to talk to everone that came but it will never happen so take it as it comes and be sure to remember its your (your and hers) night.

To all the single guys, I usually say:

"Get married, why should you be happy"?

I have always tried to 'compromise' in my marriage and that worked pretty good. My best advice would be: always keep the lines of communication open. There isn't enough space on the server to give you all the advice I have on this thread, so I guess it'll be a real journey for you two. You two will figure it out on your own.

God bless and good luck.

Thanks for all of the kind words and well wishes. smile.gif I am really looking forward to our honeymoon. We are going to San Diego for 5 days. It should be a good time, we have never been there before.

Women spend their lives trying to turn their husbands into something they wern't when they were dating.

Men spend their lives trying to turn their wives into what they were when they were dating. grin.gif

I always told my wife:

"I don't mind if you change me. Just don't let me know you are doing it!"

Congrats and the Best of Luck to the both of you. I have been married for 33 years and hunt and fish more than I ever have. Just remember that she also has needs to and just dont think that the hunting and fishing is everything.

Like Dietz stated, Keep the booze to a minimum and make your first day together a great one and she will also remember that. Its a two way street for it to work and it can be wonderfull.

A few words of wisdom that have been handed down to me. If mama ain't happy, nobody's happy. Next, don't attempt to bank brownie points because just one "oh sh!t" will wipe out all brownie points you have saved.

Make sure that you play the Queen son "Another One Bites The Dust" at the wedding dance! I always request that one... and the duck song and the YMCA song... the ones that I can dance to! laugh.gif

Good luck as you start your new life! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

make sure in your wedding vows or at least the fine print in your licsence it says....daddy gets to go fishing whenever he wants!

Guys tend to get selfish when it comes to fishing and hunting, its just not realistic nor fair to expect to hunt and fish as much as you want after you get married. You do have to remember to consider the wife now, its all part of the marriage game. Your relationship is more important then any fish you might catch.

You probably won't be able to do EVERYTHING you want all the time but if you picked the right woman she will more then make up for any lost fishing time.

The wedding day will go by so fast, if you have time to drink any alcohol you probably aren't focusing on the right things. Leave the beer for your buddies and stay sober and focus on your new wife, if you don't you're best to just skip the wedding all togther becuase you'll be in the dog house before you even carry her over the threshold and thats not how you want to start your marriage.

The wedding day is a blast though enjoy it.

Give and take boys, give and take.

My wife was once asked by a bunch of her male co-workers how and why she lets me go fishing all the time. "I want him to be happy." She said they just walked away shaking their heads. cool.gif

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
